Two people killed when left the road and smashed through their home in southwest Victoria

Two people have been killed in their bed when a truck crashed into their house in Victoria’s south-west.

00:00Police are investigating the circumstances behind this horrific crash, where a truck

00:06has veered off the Princess Highway just west of Warrnambool and crashed into the bedroom

00:10of this house near Tower Hill.

00:13The two occupants inside the bedroom at the time, an 81-year-old man and an 80-year-old

00:17woman, have died at the scene.

00:19The truck driver has been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

00:24Tragically, the truck has gone through the front bedroom area of the house.

00:29The house is at this stage quarantined due to some asbestos issues, but we are hoping

00:33to get in there later today once we get the appropriate safety measures.

00:36But it appears both victims were in the front bedroom at the time.

00:40Police are looking at the circumstances that led up to the truck colliding with the house.

00:44It's left the highway some 300 metres to the west of here and travelled straight through,

00:49in a straight line through paddocks for colliding with the house.

00:53Police are investigating whether there was a mechanical fault with the truck or a medical

00:57episode with the driver or some level of distraction, but that's what their investigation will be
