00:05died on Sunday afternoon at his home in Plains, Georgia.

00:09He was 100 years old.

00:11Carter had been receiving hospice care since February 2023

00:15at his Georgia home, where he lived with his wife

00:18of nearly eight decades, Rosalyn Carter.

00:21Rosalyn passed away 13 months prior to his passing

00:24in November 2023 at the age of 96.

00:28The former president made his final public appearance

00:31to mourn his wife's death at her funeral.

00:34Carter is survived by his four children

00:36with the former first lady, Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy.

00:40Carter, who served as president of the United States

00:43from 1977 to 1981, was the first U.S. president

00:47to reach their 100th birthday.

00:49At the time of his birthday back in October,

00:51President Joe Biden celebrated the milestone

00:53with a birthday greeting shared with CBS News.
