00:04that shows our faith and tradition.

00:08From Belen to Saparol, which is the symbol of Bethlehem.

00:13Each symbol has a deep meaning that unites us in the Church Of Christ.

00:20Join us on this journey to deepen our understanding of the Christmas symbols in our faith.

00:28We will be joined by Fr. Dom Lorenzo, the priest-shepherd of the Society of St. Celestine V.

00:43Yes, good morning. Merry Christmas.

00:46Oh, it's like I heard Father Lorenzo right away. He's so light-hearted.

00:50Father, what are the main Christmas symbols in the Catholic Church?

00:56All of the Christmas symbols in the Catholic Church started on the Sabbath.

01:02Here, I prepared this for you to see.

01:06All of these are rooted in what happened in Belen.

01:11But in Calaunan, these symbols were destroyed.

01:17The star, or in our Filipino language, Parol, was destroyed.

01:27The angel gave the message of good news,

01:31and all of these were destroyed and repaired by St. Francis of Assisi in Italy.

01:43The people of Calaunan were the first to build Belen.

01:49In Calaunan, due to consumerism, St. Claus was added,

01:58who was also a Catholic, because he was a monk like me, and became a bishop.

02:07This is the symbol of our Christmas,

02:13but all of it is centered on Jesus Christ,

02:19on the Holy Spirit, who is the Immaculate Heart of God, who is our hope.

02:25Okay, Father, since you already mentioned these symbols,

02:29how and when did the use of these symbols start in the construction of our Christmas?

02:37We arrived at the construction of Christmas at the time of our preparation,

02:44with the use of the crown of thorns.

02:47As you can see here beside me, there are candles of different colors.

02:53The white one symbolizes our Lord Jesus Christ.

02:57But within four weeks, we prepared for Christmas.

03:02We lit the candles one by one, as a sign of the upcoming celebration.

03:10And now we are here in the evening, later in the evening,

03:16we will light the white one, which is the symbol of our Lord.

03:20But all of that started, as we said,

03:26in the tradition of St. Francis of Assisi.

03:33After that, it was destroyed by the Church.

03:37But the focus is always on the Word of God.

03:41So, as you can see, in the celebration at the Vatican,

03:46the Bible is always there as a symbol of the Word of God.

03:51And there is also the cross of Jesus, as a word of praise,

03:59the Messiah who was born in the world.

04:03Alright, Father, if you were to ask a personal note,

04:07do you have a particular symbol of Christmas that is close to your heart, and why?

04:15From the very beginning, there is only one important symbol,

04:20and the center of our celebration, the cross, the white one.

04:27This is my favorite, and I always show it to you every year.

04:33This is the replica of the cross on the white one in Israel.

04:41This is my favorite because this is the reason for our perseverance,

04:48this is the reason for our hope.

05:55and what we should put in our hearts and minds

05:59is the very arrival of Jesus Christ in our lives.

06:03Father, how can we deepen our understanding of the symbols mentioned?

06:12We need to focus on the reason for our celebration.

06:18As we say every year, there is only one reason.

06:24The Lord is with us, no matter what.

06:32We need to discern the truth

06:37and focus on the sacrifice that God made

06:44for us to be saved and to be saved.

06:48And we, in ourselves, will be filled with gratitude and love

06:57because He is the One who first loved and cared for us.
