00:00Last week, Nexus had no choice but to suspend some of their Tyne and Wear Metro service due to the Gateshead flyover closure.
00:06There are still no trains running between Monument and Heworth in both directions because that route runs directly under the Gateshead flyover.
00:13Nexus have said Gateshead Council engineers are working up plans to strengthen parts of the A167 flyover to enable us to re-open the tunnels.
00:21They have told us there is potential for the remedial work to be completed early in the new year.
00:25This unfortunately means the service suspension will be in place at least until then.
00:29We are working closely with colleagues at Gateshead Council and once the remedial work is completed, it will take us time to get back to a full service.
00:36Nexus, as well as the North East Mayor, Kim McGuinness, have been posting frequent updates on their social media.
00:41On Friday, Ms McGuinness posted that replacement buses are on and will increase throughout the day.
00:45Gateshead Council must find a short-term fix to alleviate transport disruption. They know this and have support from the region.
00:51This will take time and I appreciate people's patience and understanding that these decisions have been made to keep everyone safe and to prevent the catastrophe of the flyover collapsing.
