Ferry, passenger boat and RORO operators to get diesel subsidies from Jan 1

The government has agreed to provide diesel subsidies to ferry, passenger boat, and roll-on roll-off (roro) ferry operators on the main islands starting Jan 1. 00:00It is stated that the government will provide diesel subsidies to ferry and passenger boats

00:08and ferry services in the main islands of Malaysia,

00:12starting January 1, 2025,

00:16with the first request to be made by the involved companies

00:21on or before February 20, 2025.

00:25The price of diesel ceiling subsidies for ferry or passenger boats

00:29and ferry services in the main islands

00:33is set at RM2.50 per litre

00:36with a maximum subsidy rate of 5% per litre.

00:40This diesel subsidy will be provided

00:43through ferry or passenger boats

00:47and ferry services such as

00:49Labuan Governorate,

00:52Langkawi Island,

00:53Pangko Island,

00:55Ketam Island,

00:56Tioman Island,

00:58Purau Redang,

00:59and Pulau Pinang.

01:02This subsidy is in line with the government's efforts

01:07to ensure the continuity and effectiveness

01:10of public transport services.

01:14This subsidy is expected to have a positive impact

01:16on ferry and passenger boats

01:19and ferry services

01:20by reducing the burden of operating costs,

01:22especially those involving the cost of fuel.

01:25The requirements for the request for diesel subsidies are as follows.

01:29Employees who are eligible need to comply with the requirements

01:32to provide them with a diesel subsidy.

01:35Among them,

01:36employees, ferries and passenger boats and ferry services

01:39must register with the Malaysian Maritime Authority

01:41and obtain diesel supplies from banks or skid tanks

01:45provided by the authorities.

01:47Second,

01:48employees and ferry services

01:51who are eligible need to submit a request for a diesel subsidy

01:54to the Ministry of Domestic Trade

01:57and the Ministry of Social Welfare.

02:01Third,

02:02the request for a diesel subsidy must be made monthly

02:05based on the schedule set by the Ministry of Finance

02:09every month

02:10and must include a request document

02:12submitted by the Malaysian Maritime Authority

02:14to the Ministry of Finance

02:15and a copy to the nearest customs station

02:19for the verification process

02:21not more than 20 days for the next month.

02:25The Ministry of Transport also wants to emphasize

02:28that although this diesel subsidy is intended

02:30to reduce the operating costs of ferry operators,

02:33it is a responsibility

02:35for the operators to ensure that the cost of services

02:38and aspects of ferry safety are improved

02:40in an effort to ensure more efficient services

02:43and competitive power to users.
