Hybrid and electric cars are now selling almost as much as fuel vehicles in the EU.

In 2023, almost 11 million new passenger cars were registered in the EU.

48.3% of them were hybrid and battery electric, against 48.8% of traditional petrol and diesel cars.

Pure petrol vehicles kept the largest individual share at 34.5%,

followed closely by non-plug-in hybrid petrol-electric cars at 21.1%.

Battery-only electric cars accounted for 14.5%,

surpassing pure diesel cars, which stood at 14.3%.

In nine EU countries, the share of hybrid and electric cars in new registrations exceeded 50%.

Finland reported the highest share of new hybrid and electric vehicles,
