Festive cheer in full swing in Hobart's CBD

For local businesses in Brisbane's CBD,  it's a busy time selling gifts and giving back to the community with Christmas around the corner.

00:00The lead up to Christmas is the busiest time of year for many Tasmanian retailers, including

00:07the shop in Hobart, which has won the People's Choice Award in the local council's Christmas

00:11window competition.

00:13We have a lot of customers that shop online with us.

00:15Today will all be about click and collects, and it's great to see so many people saying

00:19that they're choosing to shop local.

00:22The momentum started by the Black Friday sales is continuing for Tasmanian businesses, with

00:27the small business council members reporting plenty of traffic for shoppers.

00:31They need to get out there and do something.

00:33The prices are very keen, and they start early.

00:35And so it's been consistent ever since then, right through to today.

00:39While shop owners are doing their best to inspire the Christmas spirit, community organisations

00:43are also preparing for the festive season.

00:47Santa's elves aren't the only ones working hard to put presents under the tree, as Homebase

00:51and its partners get ready to give back at its community Christmas lunch.

00:55They've been wrapping behind us, so every child on Christmas Day will leave with an

01:05abundance of gifts.

01:06The community lunch aims to help Tasmanians by providing food and presents to those who

01:10need it.

01:11We've been running the community Christmas lunch for 43 years, and it just grows year

01:16on year.

01:17I guess in the last four or five years we've seen a significant increase in demand.
