Blast of cold air to cause frigid conditions for college football playoffs

Three of the four college football playoff games on Dec. 21 will be below freezing.

00:00After many years of debate in the world of college football, it is playoff time.

00:05A 12-team playoff begins this weekend here, and we've got four conference champions sitting

00:13this first round out, but there are eight teams facing off in four games this weekend

00:18beginning Friday, and it's going to get a lot colder across most of at least the Midwest

00:22and the Northeast, but there is one game in Texas that will be unimpacted by the bulk

00:27of the weather here.

00:28A big cold blast, though, is going to be impacting things on Friday night as we kick this off

00:32here in South Bend, Indiana.

00:33You can see we're dealing with accuweather real field temperatures in the teens as you

00:38match the colors.

00:39It's the second shade of blue there at South Bend or Notre Dame, and it's an intrastate

00:45matchup here.

00:46Indiana's had a spectacular season this year.

00:49They're heading north up into Notre Dame, and we're going to be in the upper 20s, but

00:52look at these accuweather real field temperatures in the teens for much of the game.

00:55That's a concern.

00:57And the game is going to be impacted by that cold, the fan experience as well.

01:00Heading into Saturday evening, we've got Columbus and State College PA here.

01:17It's going to be very cold out there.

01:20There will likely be at least a few flurries around.

01:24There's a flurry or two into Columbus, Ohio at the Horseshoe, Tennessee heading north

01:28to Ohio State.

01:33And if we step away from the cold, there is one game in Austin, Texas that's not going

01:38to be impacted by that adverse weather.
