00:25German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is facing a no-confidence vote in the Bundestag on Monday,

00:30following the collapse of the German so-called Traffic Light Coalition.

00:35Scholz is generally expected to lose the vote, setting the stage for snap elections to be

00:40held in February.

00:42If Scholz does indeed lose the vote, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will then

00:46decide whether or not to dissolve the Bundestag.

00:50In current polls, the conservative CDU party led by Friedrich Merz is far ahead of Scholz's

00:55SPD.

00:56The far-right AfD is also seeing gains, following trends seen earlier this year when it became

01:02the first far-right party to win a state election since 1945.

01:08Scholz's government has grown increasingly unpopular over the years amid Germany's stagnant

01:12economy that has led to mass job losses and strikes.

01:17Economic crisis management will therefore be a core issue driving the upcoming election

01:22campaigns.

01:30The Israeli Knesset has approved plans to increase the number of settlers in the Golan

01:34Heights, territory that was seized from Syria in 1967.

01:39The announcement comes a week after the dramatic downfall of longtime President Bashar al-Assad.

01:45The demographic development plan to double settler numbers only applies to the area of

01:49the Golan Heights that Israel seized during the Six-Day War and later annexed in 1981.

01:55There are currently an estimated 31,000 Israelis living in settlements considered illegal under

02:01international law across the Golan Heights.

02:04Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the plan, which comes with 10 million

02:09euros in funding.

02:10But he also said Israel wasn't seeking a conflict with Syria.

02:40Since rebel groups marched into Damascus and brought an end to al-Assad's 24-year rule,

02:46Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes across Syria.

02:50Officials say those strikes are aimed at destroying weapons dumps to prevent them falling into

02:54the hands of terrorists.

02:56But they've been criticized by Syria's de facto leader, Ahmed al-Sharar, who said they

03:01crossed red lines and risked escalating tensions across the Middle East.

03:10Israel's Prime Minister Simon Harris has called Israel's decision to close its embassy in

03:14Dublin deeply regrettable.

03:17But he also said his government wouldn't change its position on how the war in Gaza is being

03:21fought.

03:23Israel announced on Sunday it would close its mission in the Irish capital because of

03:27what officials called extreme anti-Israel policies.

03:30Meanwhile, Israeli forces have continued to pound Gaza's largely isolated north as

03:57the Palestinian death toll approaches 45,000.

04:02One airstrike hit the Qalila Wada school in the town of Beit Hanoun and killed at least

04:0615 people, according to nearby Kamal Adwan Hospital, where casualties were taken.

04:12And in Gaza City, at least 17 people, including six women and five children, were killed in

04:17three airstrikes that hit houses sheltering displaced people.

04:21Israel's military said in a statement that it struck a terrorist cell in Gaza City and

04:25a terrorist meeting point in the Beit Hanoun area.

04:29The war in Gaza began after Hamas stormed southern Israel on the 7th of October last

04:34year, killing 1,200 people and taking around 250 others hostage.

04:45Earlier this month, Islamist opposition rebels toppled al-Assad's regime.

04:49Many came out to the street to celebrate but serious Kurds in the north worry for their

04:53future.

04:55Many fear the ascendance of the Turkish-backed Islamist group who overthrew al-Assad will

05:00make it hard for the Kurds to find a new place in Syria.

05:25Meanwhile, the Kurdish administration issued amnesty for prisoners to celebrate the fall

05:46of al-Assad's regime.

05:48It comes after the opening of prisons in areas of Syria that were previously controlled by

05:52the government.

06:01At least two people were injured and an infrastructure facility damaged in the Ukrainian city of

06:06Mykolaiv after a Russian overnight drone and missile attack, regional authorities said

06:11on Sunday.

06:13Local media report that Russia had launched a total of 108 drones and an anti-aircraft

06:18missile during the night as part of the ongoing aerial campaign against Ukraine.

06:24Ukraine's air force said the military had successfully shot down 56 of these drones.

06:31Across the border in the Russian city of Belgorod, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said a

06:36Ukrainian drone attack had killed a 9-year-old boy.

06:44Gladkov reported that 37 drones had been fired on the area within a 24-hour period.

06:50One of these attacks reportedly struck a residential building in the village of Metski, killing

06:55the boy and injuring his mother and sister.

07:03Two Russian oil tankers were badly damaged in a storm in the Kerch Strait, spilling oil

07:08and sparking an emergency rescue operation.

07:12One tanker ran aground and had its bow torn away, with Russian media saying one person

07:16on board was killed while the rest were saved by emergency services.

07:21The second tanker was also damaged in the storm and left drifting in the same area with

07:26its crew members aboard.

07:29Ukrainian officials accused Moscow of recklessness, saying the tankers were too old to go out

08:05the country.

08:06Judy Maloney said that political stability is what makes Italy more credible, both nationally

08:12and internationally, and she is confident the government will serve its full term.

08:19She announced that she is about to step down as the president of the ECR, supporting Poland's

08:24Morawiecki as the next head of the group.

08:28On Saturday, key speakers at the cross-party summit included Lebanese Prime Minister Mikati

08:35and Argentina's President Javier Mele.

08:38We understand that the free trade deal between the EU and the Mercosur states, which include

08:43Argentina, has been reported as a central topic in Malay's discussions with Maloney.

08:50In fact, like other EU countries, Italy remains hesitant to support the deal unless it includes

10:14Cyclone Tido barrelled into the archipelago.

10:18The French Interior Ministry said it was proving difficult to get a precise tally

10:21of fatalities, but so far 11 deaths have been confirmed.

10:26Speaking to a local TV station earlier on Sunday, Mayotte's prefect said he thought

10:30the death toll could reach 1,000.

10:33A local hospital reported that nine people were in critical condition there and 246 others

10:39were injured.

11:08Officials in Mayotte said it was the worst cyclone to hit the territory in almost a century.

11:13The French Interior Ministry said 1,600 police officers have been deployed to help the population

11:19and prevent potential looting.

11:21The cyclone has now made landfall on the east coast of Africa, slamming into northern Mozambique.

11:27UNICEF said Cabo Delgado province, home to around two million people, had been hard hit.

11:33The agency is now concerned about access to health care and the spread of waterborne diseases

11:38like cholera and malaria.
