00:00Hi there. The cloud-free skies that some parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland have enjoyed

00:05during the last few days are being increasingly nibbled away from all sides as cloud advances

00:12from the north-west as well as the south. Nevertheless, we do keep some clear spells

00:16for north-eastern parts of Scotland, especially around the mainland of Aberdeenshire into

00:22Caithness and Sutherland overnight. And here, where we do have those lengthy clear spells,

00:27temperatures could dip as low as minus three or a little lower. But elsewhere, it's extensive

00:33low cloud, mist, hill fog, drizzle, a gloomy start to Friday, but a frost-free start for

00:41many because of the blanket of cloud. Though we could see some cloud breaks in one or two

00:46spots towards the south-west, for example, Northern Ireland, and where that occurs, temperatures

00:51dipping to one or two Celsius. For the vast majority, however, Friday is a grey day. I

00:57mean, a lot of low cloud, mist, drizzle, hill fog. Some brighter interludes, north-east

01:04Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland for a time, west Wales, for example, they'll be

01:08limited, I think. For the vast majority, it is just a cloudy day. Temperatures as well

01:14not feeling particularly pleasant under the cloud, five to eight Celsius. And then later

01:19in the day, we do see an area of rain pushing into the north-west of Scotland. First, it's

01:23heavy and persistent, but it peters out as it pushes south across Scotland, Northern

01:28Ireland, and then moves into England and Wales during the early hours of Saturday. It just

01:32merges with more general areas of patchy rain and showers. The showers mostly affecting

01:37western and central parts on Saturday morning. Clear spells, therefore, eastern Scotland,

01:43the north-east of England, a touch of frost could return as we begin Saturday. Otherwise,

01:49generally four to six Celsius. And again, a lot of cloud to begin the weekend, but brighter

01:54skies are moving in from the north-west. Quite a brisk north-westerly breeze, especially

01:59for the west and north of Scotland, and that's going to bring with it some showers. The showers

02:04tending to ease in many places by Saturday afternoon. Some decent sunshine breaking out

02:09across the south and the east of England and Wales, but turning increasingly cloudy once

02:14again for Scotland and Northern Ireland with outbreaks of persistent rain reaching western

02:18Scotland by the end of the day. Seven to nine Celsius, a touch milder, but it's going to

02:23become increasingly mild through Saturday night into Sunday and the start of next week

02:29as Atlantic westerly winds return. Not only will it turn milder, but it's also going to

02:35turn more unsettled across northern parts of the country with tightly packed isobars,

02:39strong and gusty winds and some very persistent rainfall for western Scotland. High pressure

02:45to the south will keep things more settled as we begin next week before low pressure

02:49turns up from the middle of the week. So, all change, but the next 24 hours looking

02:55very gloomy for most of us.
