00:00Well, I don't know about any of you,

00:01but when I'm getting ready in the morning,

00:03I don't really care about the temperature.

00:05I care about what it's actually going to feel like outside,

00:08right?

00:08Because that's what matters.

00:09Well, that is where AccuWeather's real field

00:11temperature comes in.

00:12You've probably seen us here on the network using maps

00:14like this, where we show you where

00:16it's going to feel 20 to 30 degrees for that real feel

00:19or well below zero.

00:22Well, let's talk about how exactly we get

00:24these real field temperatures.

00:26There's several things that go into this.

00:28It's a very complicated equation.

00:30But some of the factors are things

00:31like temperature, cloud cover, wind speed.

00:33You've probably heard of wind chill.

00:35That just factors in the wind speed.

00:36But obviously, we have seven different factors

00:39that go into real feel.

00:40Everything from temperature and wind speed,

00:42like I mentioned, down to visibility and precipitation.

00:46But let's break down what you need

00:47to know about the real feel ranges, what to expect, right?

00:51So from 40 to 52 degrees for that real feel temperature,

00:55you probably need a jacket, at least a sweatshirt.

00:57When we get down to the cold category, that's 25 to 39,

01:01you probably need the heavier coat, a hat, gloves,

01:03and a scarf, all not a bad idea.

01:05Then we get to very cold, 10 to 24 degrees

01:07for that real feel temperature.

01:09That's where people like older adults, infants,

01:11people with sensitive medical conditions,

01:14you need to start taking steps to protect yourself

01:16from hypothermia and frostbite.

01:18But obviously, it gets even colder in many places

01:21during the winter.

01:22So we get down to 10 below zero to 9 degrees.

01:25That's when frostbite starts to be a concern.

01:27You could be exposed to frostbite within 15 minutes.

01:30So you should start to limit outdoor activity.

01:32Then we get to 24 to 11 degrees below zero.

01:36Frostbite is a possibility within eight minutes.

01:39And then that dangerous cold category,

01:41you could get frostbite within two minutes.

01:44So things to keep in mind,

01:45make sure you are dressed appropriately

01:47when you go outside

01:48when these real feel temperatures are in effect.
