00:00So we'll have been married 13 years in January and I feel like it's it's so interesting how

00:09we really do we do balance each other out so well and the seasons where things are you know one

00:16child or for example like when the twins were not fully talking yet and there was a whole lot

00:22it was a whole lot of like like grunting and and and they're so frustrated that they can't find

00:28words and they're also like going towards danger at the same time and you're having to like

00:33pick which one if it's just you's headed towards the more dangerous thing and you know that that

00:39for me brought on I was very nervous like it was a hard season for me with them having two at once

00:46at the same stage um trying to manage that and keep them safe and sleeping and fed and all of

00:55the things he was cool calm and collected through that you know and then when Isley hit a hit a

01:01place where her feelings got really big and you know I'm like bring her like give me all the

01:06feelings like let's talk you know so I feel like right when when each child is kind of hitting a

01:12new leap or shift one of us is ready with open arms and then the the honesty to go I'm tagging

01:21out right now like you know that's the other thing too where we just can look at each other

01:25across the room and know like I'm I'll hop in for you right now like go get what you need because

01:31I think that's the the thing with with teammating and partnering and parenting is a lot of it

01:38honestly a lot of my deepest work around it is being honest when I just need a minute because

01:46if I don't allow that for myself I totally lash out at them in unfair ways you know and and it

01:54still happens even when I've asked for a minute and I've gotten it and I come back and I still

01:58don't have my attitude right but but I will say like having that relationship and that honesty

02:05and that open communication to be able to just say like okay I'm not gonna be my best self unless I

02:11just go have five minutes you know and um and I appreciate that and and appreciate that there's

02:18no judgment from him in that and vice versa and um and I think you know there have been seasons

02:25of our life especially since the twins came along where it has felt like very overwhelming and and

02:33how can we how can we do this but I will say this season that we're in right now is just

02:42precious and and it's still hard you know it's a lot of different extracurricular activities that

02:49we're going separate directions and we're trying to to build them up and and encourage who they're

02:55becoming and what they want to experience and and explore you know what they love sports arts all of

03:02it um but I will say like they are oh they're so much fun they're so much fun right now and

03:10and I'm very very grateful that I have a partner who risk who there's just mutual respect and

03:21open communication um and getting to walk this parenting journey with him because it um

03:29it's a journey to to go a step further I mean when we got pregnant with our twins

03:35he became a stay-at-home dad so he's been a stay-at-home dad since the twins were born

03:40and went back to school to get his master's when they started preschool

03:44so he's been working on a few things over the last couple of years but I mean

03:49stay-at-home dad just here for all of it I mean a girl dad there's so much estrogen in our house

03:55estrogen in our house um and I it is it's I'm the gratitude I feel in my heart and for him and

04:04our our marriage and um and where we are now but even what's to come you know it's just it's a

04:10really so um I feel so lucky that he is he chose me I really do I feel so lucky we do we do we try

04:23to have a date night at least once a month um and sometimes it ends up being like like we have a

04:32two times a month we go out and we have a small group with another like a group of couples and

04:36it's a 40-minute drive there and home and so sometimes it's the 40-minute drive there and

04:41home that we get to just talk and and share and um be with each other and then for our anniversary

04:48we're going to be in Colorado we're going to go do a couple's trip there um just get away and

04:54kind of just clear our head and and I think brainstorm and dream for the future I think

05:01that's one thing that if you if you don't set those times aside and and even intentionally

05:07like almost set up your intentions for your time you know it's like we're hitting a season in our

05:14life where it's like okay what do we what do we want to do for the next 10 to 20 years you know

05:19we're excited to think about the future and plan for it and um so this actually saw this another

05:26couple and they're artists friends of mine it's Drew Holcomb and Ellie Holcomb they go and they

05:31have kind of a trip every year where that's called the state of the union trip where they go and they

05:36kind of talk about the next calendar year the next few years and what their goals are as a couple and

05:42a family and as artists and so I'm like I might have to borrow that that's a really really wise

05:50intention to have each year with with your partner.
