The foreign ministers of Germany, France and Poland have condemned the disproportionate
00:06
use of force against pro-EU protesters in Georgia as the wave of unrest continues for
00:11
a tenth night.
00:13
In their joint statement, the three foreign ministers also called for the immediate release
00:16
of opposition members.
00:19
More than 400 protesters, including opposition leaders and at least 50 journalists have been
00:23
detained while over 100 people have been treated for injuries.
00:28
The ruling Georgian Dream retained control of parliament in disputed elections in October.
00:33
The opposition accused the governing party of rigging the vote with the help of neighboring
00:37
Russia to keep the Georgian Dream in power.
00:40
But the protests against the elections spread beyond Tbilisi after the decision last Thursday
00:45
to put EU accession talks on hold until 2028.
00:49
That was in response to a European Parliament resolution that criticized the elections as
00:54
neither free nor fair.
