An afternoon to warm the hearts of the Hearts fans on a chilly afternoon at Tyne Castle.
00:09
They embraced the suggestion that they have the Rio Laurence Shankland back. The striker
00:17
got back on the goal trail with a very typically opportunist double for his team in a 2-0 win
00:26
over a very poor Dundee team at Tyne Castle. Shankland had scored twice by the 31st minute
00:37
and was hunting for his hat-trick in the hour that remained but didn't quite get it a couple
00:44
of chances later on. One possible penalty was a VAR check which he had an extra frisson
00:52
of excitement amongst the crowd thinking that Shankland might have the chance to score
00:57
his hat-trick from the penalty spot but it was not to be. I'm sure he'd be happy enough
01:03
with a double. Indeed, he's been speaking sitting in that chair just behind me there
01:11
earlier talking about his delight at getting back on the scoresheet after a goal drought
01:19
I think lasting as many as 12 games and 70 days since he scored last against Ross County
01:25
at the end of September. I'll be writing a piece around those words that Laurence Shankland
01:32
was musings that will be going online on Sunday evening on thescotsman.com. My match report
01:43
from this afternoon's game is up as well and we shall see if this result is the springboard
01:53
for Hearts to keep on rising up the league. They leapfrog Hibs into 11th place, that'll
01:57
do for starters I'm sure, and they head to Copenhagen on Thursday night in the Conference
02:04
League. I'm sure Shankland will be keen to extend this little run to a second game. Unfortunately,
02:13
he won't have the chance to do it for a third game because he picked up a booking today for
02:17
a high-foot challenge on Mo Siller, which means he's suspended for Sunday's trip to Comarnac.
02:24
But that is the one downside from a very positive afternoon for Hearts at Tyne Castle.
