Dubai Parks and Resorts opens in style and fanfare

00:00Dubai has achieved another milestone with the grand opening of Dubai Parks and Resorts,

00:11a 13 billion dirham attraction that was inaugurated Sunday evening by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed

00:16bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

00:22Located in Jebel Ali, the theme attraction, which features four themed destinations and

00:27took just three years to build, opened to a splendid display of fireworks and performances

00:31featuring lookalikes of Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and

00:37Aamir Khan.

00:38Alan Menken, the Oscar, Grammy and Tony Award-winning composer behind the scores of classic films

00:43such as Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast, wrote the attraction's theme song, All the

00:47Wonders of the Universe, which he also performed with his daughter Anna Rose.

00:54The inauguration was also attended by 200 children from the AUCAF and Minor Affairs

00:58Foundation and Make-A-Wish Foundation.

01:01Spread over 2.8 million square meters, Dubai Parks consists of three main theme parks,

01:07Legoland Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai and Motiongate Dubai.

01:11It also features Riverland Dubai, which serves as a reception area for all the parks.

01:16While we focus on tourism in this region, it kind of was a no-brainer at the start of

01:22it that a destination of this nature was needed.

01:26And it does a lot for not just the UAE, but the surrounding regions, you know.

01:31Like I said, this is the first time someone's done something like this before.

01:35And we're expecting almost 70% of our visitation from the tourist markets, majority of that

01:40coming from the proximity markets like the GCC and the Indian subcontinent.

01:45So it's definitely a place that people want to come to.

01:50We're very well placed here in terms of location, so it makes a lot of sense for tourists and

01:55residents alike.

01:56The opening show, which lasted about 30 minutes, ended with a massive fireworks display.
