00:24which is also known as the Mother of All Philippine Maps.
00:27In a ceremony in Malacañang, Pedro Murillo Velarde's Prilingue Castilla map
00:32was formally transferred to the government of the Philippines by the two Filipinos in 1734
00:39by Mel Velasco Velarde, who bought the map at an auction in London in 2014.
00:44Mr. President, your bold declaration,
00:48not an inch of our territory shall ever be lost.
00:54Restored dignity to the highest office of the land,
00:59and united the nation in sovereignty and pride.
01:03You transformed the map into a symbol of unity, grounded in courage and dignity.
01:11This map was used by the Philippines in an arbitration case against China.
01:17One of the reasons why the UN Arbitral Tribunal of the Philippines
01:23The Murillo Velarde map in particular provided critical evidence to demonstrate
01:33that the Philippines has continuously exercised authority and jurisdiction
01:38over what is now identified as Panakot Shoal, now Scarborough Shoal,
01:43and Los Bajos de Paragua, Spratly Islands.
01:47The 2016 Arbitral Award clarified maritime entitlements under UNCLOS,
01:52reinforcing our rights over resources within our Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf.
02:00China continues to deny the recognition of the Arbitral Award
02:04and one of their bases is their historical claim to the territories it has acquired.
02:09The Murillo Velarde 1734 map is said to be an important part of history.
02:15It used to be a symbol of conspiracy, but now it is a symbol of solidarity for what is ours.
02:21Let us not only admire the artistry of the masterpiece presented to us today,
02:26but also draw inspiration from its enduring message,
02:30the call to protect and to assert what is rightfully ours with resolve and with integrity.
