Police investigate suspicious synagogue fire

Police are investigating a suspicious fire at Adass Israel synagogue in Melbourne’s south at 4am on December 6, 2024.

00:00This morning at approximately 10 past 4, the FRV, our fire service, were called to 24 Loneira

00:11Avenue in Ripon Lee.

00:12We have a synagogue at this premises.

00:17At that location, a deliberately lit fire was detected.

00:22What we do know, a witness who was attending morning prayers has entered the synagogue

00:28and upon entering, has seen two individuals wearing masks, for want of a better description.

00:35They appear to be spreading an accelerant of some type inside the premises.

00:42This individual has left.

00:44Police were called to the premises where the premises has been engulfed and has suffered

00:52extensive damage.

00:58This individual has left the premises where he has suffered extensive damage.
