Australian students score best ever result in global maths and science test

Australian primary school students have recorded their best results in an international maths and science assessment. The "trends in international mathematics and science study" has been testing year 4 and year 8 students for three decades.

00:00We did really well. So in maths, we're in the top 10 of all countries. We saw some countries

00:12had quite significant declines. We didn't, and we would be considered a high-performing

00:18country in mathematics, which is excellent and a testament to our teachers. We know that

00:23our teachers are making sure that they're checking for understanding, they're not leaving

00:29to chance any gaps that students might have in their knowledge. They're explicitly teaching

00:36the content, they're revising that content, and they're making sure that all of the basic

00:41blocks, the foundation blocks that children need in order to understand, you know, harder

00:47concepts later in life for maths and science are known. And they've done a great job. Best

00:54ever, in fact.
