The UnitedHealthcare CEO Shot and Killed Outside a New York City Hotel

Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was fatally shot outside a hotel in midtown Manhattan where he was scheduled to speak at an investor meeting Wednesday morning, according to a person briefed on the investigation.

00:08was shot and killed in what appears, at this early stage of our investigation, to be a

00:13brazen targeted attack.

00:16This does not appear to be a random act of violence.

00:20The victim was in New York City to speak at an investor conference.

00:23It appears the suspect was lying in wait for several minutes.

00:28And as the victim was walking to the conference hotel, the suspect approached from behind

00:33and fired several rounds, striking the victim at least once in the back and at least once

00:39in the right calf.

00:41Many people passed the suspect, but he appeared to wait for his intended target.

00:47The suspect fled, first on foot, then on an e-bike, and was last seen in Central Park

00:54on Center Drive early this morning.

00:57The victim was removed to Roosevelt Hospital, where he was pronounced.
