00:18began the clear-up.

00:19Fifty-six-year-old Muhammad Alim recounted the terrifying ordeal he and his family endured.

00:26On Thursday evening, the weather was different.

00:33It was raining and we didn't expect the water to reach this level.

00:40That night, I saw water rising in front of the house.

00:46It never happened before.

00:47I thought it was nothing.

00:49I woke up at around seven in the morning and they told me the water had reached the shop.

01:00I rushed here, but I didn't make it.

01:04The water had overflowed from the road.

01:10At that time, there was no water here.

01:13The water was just coming.

01:16I took whatever I could get.

01:18I closed the door and let it sit there.

01:21I was safe.

01:22We were always prepared at home.

01:26The problem was that we couldn't get out of the house because the water was too strong.

01:35It was strong here, too.

01:37The water was overflowing faster here.

01:40On Saturday night, the house was on fire.

01:46There was no water.

01:47It was as if we were in the middle of nowhere.

01:53We heard the sound of water dripping.

01:58It was so quiet.

02:00It's normal for a place like this to be quiet.

02:04The immediate situation has improved in some areas and water levels have eased.

02:09The number of people in evacuation shelters in the eight affected states

02:13dropped to around 94,600 people on Tuesday,

02:16while the death toll due to the floods remains at seven people.

02:21Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim

02:24said the government would expedite relief assistance

02:27to repair schools, hospitals and road networks.

02:30He added that the government would also consider compensation

02:33for flood victims whose houses were destroyed in the disaster.
