00:00Continuous rains have caused the number of flood victims in Malaysia to rise drastically.

00:07As of Friday morning, the number soared to 80,589 people from 71,877 flood victims on Thursday midnight.

00:18Authorities said a total of 467 temporary relief centres had been opened in seven states.

00:25Negeri Sembilan and Selangor are the latest states that were hit by the floods.

00:29They said the death toll from the floods had now risen to four in Kelantan, Sarawak and Terengganu.

00:36Kelantan had the highest number of flood victims at 60,032 people who had been evacuated to 226 temporary relief centres.

00:46A relief centre at the SMK Melor School in Kota Bharu, where many flood victims were staying, was flooded in the morning.

00:54The victims had to move to the higher levels after the flood situation worsened.

00:59Water levels at the Kelantan River next to the Royal Jetty exceeded the danger level, submerging the ground area of the tourist attraction.

01:08In Terengganu, some 21,000 people were taking shelter in 232 relief centres compared to 17,800 people on Thursday night.

01:21KTMB said it had cancelled 12 east coast train routes due to the worsening flood situation.

01:28The affected routes include those linking to Tumpat, Johor Bahru, Girmas, Kuala Lipis, Guamusang and Dabong.

01:36Authorities said water levels at 30 rivers nationwide had breached dangerous levels.

01:42Experts said the situation in the east coast could worsen depending on the total rainfall on coastlines and high tides.

01:49They said if the downpour occurs in the inner part of the rural areas, it could be compared to the floods in 2014,

01:56where water levels rose faster and the river overflowed, leading to the bursting of the banks.

02:03They said the floods could be controlled this time around,

02:06because the National Disaster Management Agency and other agencies were prepared to face the floods.
