Long-awaited NSW intercity trains start operating from Newcastle

Newcastle passengers have been the first to ride on New South Wales long-awaited intercity train fleet.

00:00I'm on the very first train of the Maryang Fleet and it did pull out on time from Newcastle

00:07Interchange this morning at exactly 8.21am.

00:11I was one of the many eager passengers and commuters who have been waiting for this train

00:15since 2019 when the South Korean fleet actually arrived in Australia but was sidelined and

00:22was sitting idle in Central Coast sheds due to some safety concerns.

00:25These modifications have been made and the train is up and running along with a lot of

00:30new features including trays, USB charging ports and disability access improvements

00:36including wider stairs on less of an incline.

00:39Now this is the first to roll out as we can see but we will have a few more in coming

00:44months with a whole fleet expected to be rolled out next year.

00:48Hopefully this will also include the Blue Mountains, South Coast and Illawarra lines.
