00:00Malaysia will lose an opportunity to unlock its economic potential if the proposed Kuala

00:06Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail project is scrapped, according to a transport think tank.

00:12MyMobility Vision Group founder Wan Agilwan Hassan said that beyond fair collections,

00:17the HSR could catalyse growth across sectors, attract investments and integrate economic

00:21zones.

00:23He cited the success of connectivity in projects like the Johor Bahru Special Economic Zone

00:28and the Tun Razak Exchange as examples.

00:31While economist Yekim Lang noted fiscal constraints and indicated the project would only proceed

00:36with private funding, Wan Agil argued that HSR projects globally, such as in China and

00:41France, have transformed economies.

00:44He said the HSR could add RM250 billion to GDP, create over 111,000 jobs by 2060 and

00:51boost regional connectivity.

00:54Wan Agil warned that delaying the project risks Malaysia losing its competitive edge

00:58as neighbours like Indonesia and Thailand advance their high-speed rail plans.
