00:00Five quick things about the Irish elections. First, it's the day after the elections actually

00:06happened. The counting began this morning in centres like this in the RDS in Dublin

00:10earlier this morning. We won't have a definitive result until later tonight. Counting is set

00:16to go as late as 2am or maybe even into tomorrow Sunday. We have had a first indication of

00:23results in exit poll of some 5,000 people who voted across the country yesterday and

00:28that's predicting a return for the current government of Fianna Fáil and Fianna Gael,

00:32a sort of centrist alliance between two parties that have shared the power between them for

00:37the past 100 years. So stability, continuance is what the people are voting for. That all

00:43comes despite Sinn Féin, a more left-leaning party in favour of a united Ireland, potentially

00:49getting the most votes here. So Fifth Ireland is resisting for now the rise of the far right.

00:56We do have some independents and smaller parties running on anti-immigration platforms for

01:01example, but for now Ireland, unlike the rest of Europe, hasn't seen that kind of populist

01:07rise of the far right. Stay with us as results come in throughout the day.
