Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're looking at the most historically accurate deaths in
00:14
Assassin's Creed games.
00:21
Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:25
the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:29
The Pottsy Conspirators – Assassin's Creed 2
00:42
Sometimes Assassin's Creed doesn't need to take any creative license with historical
00:46
events because the real history is so exciting.
00:49
The Pottsy Conspiracy is one such case.
00:52
It began when Lorenzo and Giuliano de Medici were attacked by the Conspirators, something
00:57
the game reproduces on a mission where Ezio must protect Lorenzo in the aftermath.
01:02
And in real life too, the Conspirators responsible were ruthlessly hunted down and killed by
01:07
mobs of Florentines loyal to the Medicis.
01:15
Ezio doesn't need to kill all 80 of them, but he does track half a dozen of them across
01:20
Tuscany.
01:21
And when Ezio kills Francesco, he hangs his body from the Palazzo della Signoria, which
01:26
the mobs did do to the Conspirators in real life.
01:36
Sebran – Assassin's Creed
01:38
It's a little difficult to ascertain the historical accuracy of the first game.
01:51
Not a lot of written records survive about the biggest figures of the day as they fought
01:54
for control of the Holy Land.
01:57
With that said, some are still more correct than others.
02:00
Robert Di Sabla, for instance, actually died in 1193, not 1191 as the game depicts, while
02:07
William of Montefiore died in Lebanon, not Syria.
02:10
Sebran, though, did die in 1191 and in the city of Acre.
02:21
Unfortunately, like many Crusaders, we don't know how he died.
02:27
We actually don't know his first name either.
02:30
But because of that, nobody can prove that he WASN'T assassinated in Acre's port,
02:35
not without a time machine anyway.
02:41
Marco Barbargio – Assassin's Creed II
02:44
That's it! Your pistola!
02:46
The one you stopped the murderer with.
02:48
It's as loud as those explosions.
02:50
Time it right, and you'll walk out of here unnoticed.
02:54
Though the most bombastic assassination in Assassin's Creed II was flying into the
02:59
palace to assassinate Carlo Grimaldi, not only did Da Vinci's flying machine almost
03:04
definitely never work, but Grimaldi wasn't a real person.
03:08
However, Ezio's other Venetian targets, the Barbargio family, were real.
03:14
Welcome, my friends, to the grandest social event of the season.
03:18
At peace or at war, in times of prosperity or paucity, Venezia will always have carnival!
03:27
In-game, Ezio uses Barbargio's brother, Agostino, to plot Marco's death so that
03:32
he can take over as the Doge of Venice, which he did.
03:35
Ezio is a noble himself, working in tandem with other Italian aristocrats to track down
03:40
Marco at a private party and kill him.
03:43
However, the dates are a little off.
03:45
Barbargio died in August, while in the game, his death takes place around Venice's carnival,
03:51
which ends on Mardi Gras.
03:54
No, it's too soon.
03:58
Robotsphere, Assassin's Creed Unity
04:02
He's the only entry on our list not personally assassinated by the player,
04:13
but he still encounters them during the dramatic coup that ousted him from power.
04:17
Elise and Arno track him down in the Hotel de Ville with the rebels at the gate.
04:22
And we see that, in Ubisoft's version of events, Elise is the one who shoots Robotsphere
04:27
in the jaw and leaves him to the wolves.
04:30
I don't have much time. Where is Gemma?
04:32
I will never talk.
04:35
In real life, he was shot in the jaw, and nursed the injury all night until his eventual
04:41
execution the following day.
04:43
We don't know exactly how it happened, but most historians believe the story of Robotsphere's
04:48
injury was actually self-inflicted in a failed attempt to avoid execution.
04:54
Seize him!
05:00
Cleopatra, Assassin's Creed Origins
05:03
Through me, Memphis shines as rubies set in gold.
05:10
Through me, Egypt triumphs!
05:14
Popular myth says that Cleopatra died after being bitten by an asp, a venomous snake native
05:19
to Egypt. But this isn't true, and in fact, Cleopatra is generally believed to have taken
05:26
her own life with poison. Other scholars, however, suspect that she was murdered, and
05:31
as her final resting place has never been discovered, we have no way to know for sure.
05:37
All I have is that I am pushed further. One more attempt to snuff me out.
05:41
My Queen, rest and remember that...
05:43
I do not need rest!
05:44
In Origins, Aya, angered at Cleopatra betraying the people of Egypt in favor of Rome, persuades
05:50
Cleopatra to end it all, or Aya will return and finish the job herself.
05:54
We don't see the moment it happens, and it's all implication, but with the context of Cleopatra's
05:59
imminent death, it's clear what Aya means.
06:03
Everything for which we have worked for so long is now ours!
06:10
We have defeated our enemies!
06:14
Al Mutawakku, Assassin's Creed Mirage
06:17
Out, all of you! I am to meet with them alone.
06:20
Father, let me stay.
06:23
Take him.
06:25
In 861, the Caliph At-Muqallatil was murdered by his own guards as part of a long plot to
06:31
oust him in favor of his oldest son after he angered the powerful military commanders
06:36
he'd come to rely on.
06:37
In Mirage, the Caliph is holding an Isu artifact for the Order of the Ancients.
06:43
Basim!
06:45
Basim!
06:52
Assassin's Creed Mirage!
06:55
And Basim sneaks into the Winter Palace in Anbar to steal it.
06:58
In the struggle, Nahal assassinates Caliph and his second and favorite son walks in on
07:03
the scene.
07:04
Though no thief was involved with the assassination in real life, the instability that follows
07:08
the Caliph's assassination drives much of Mirage.
07:12
Run!
07:13
Nahal, wait!
07:14
Father!
07:17
Get that boy!
07:19
Charles Lee, Assassin's Creed III
07:21
You put us down, we rise again.
07:24
You end one plot, we forge another.
07:29
You try so hard, but it always ends the same.
07:32
After decades of conflict, Connor finally tracks down Charles Lee, the last Templar
07:38
on his list.
07:40
He pursues him through Boston as Lee tries to leave and the two engage in an infamous
07:44
chase, until Lee ultimately escapes and then goes all the way to Philadelphia.
07:59
If you don't know the details of how and where Charles Lee actually died, you may have
08:04
thought that Lee, gravely wounded, going all the way to Philly just for Connor to kill
08:09
him in a bar was strange.
08:11
But it's because Lee, of course, did not die in Boston, but during a visit to Philadelphia,
08:17
hence the long pursuit.
08:19
He wasn't assassinated though, instead dying of a fever.
08:33
Julius Caesar, Assassin's Creed Origins
08:36
Out, all.
08:39
What will each be sent for when our congress is concluded?
08:43
I wish to hear both Ptolemies' side of the story.
08:47
Before going for Cleopatra, Aya has a different famous face on her list.
08:51
She arrives in Rome after it's become clear that Caesar is being manipulated by the Order
08:56
of the Ancients, led by Flavius and Septimus.
08:59
In disguise, she sneaks into the Roman Senate and observes Caesar making a speech to his
09:04
fellow Romans.
09:05
Only when Aya steps out of the shadows and assassinates him do the other Senators join
09:11
in, including Brutus, as we find out that the Senators responsible were some of the
09:16
first members of the Hidden Ones.
09:18
This is all relatively accurate to how the Ides of March played out in real life.
09:24
The tyrant is dead, you are free now!
09:30
Bartholomew Roberts, Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag
09:34
By two legends, how can I not be impressed by the attention you pay?
09:40
May the best of you sing praises of the second!
09:44
Following Roberts' brutal betrayal of Edward, he ends up being one of the last targets in
09:49
the game.
09:50
Edward pursues him to West Africa again when Roberts flees at the last minute.
09:55
Edward boards the jackdaw and begins to chase the royal fortune with Roberts on board, eventually
10:00
getting near enough to enter open conflict.
10:04
Fire!
10:06
Fire!
10:08
We're ready sir!
10:11
He boards the royal fortune and assassinates Roberts, who asks him as his dying wish to
10:16
bury him at sea to stop the Templars from finding his body.
10:20
A merry life and a short one, as promised.
10:25
How well I know myself.
10:27
This is all very true.
10:29
Roberts did die during a sea battle off the coast of Africa, and did wish to be buried
10:34
at sea, which he was.
10:37
For what's peace but a confusion between two wars?
10:40
Oh, you're a stoic then.
10:43
But perhaps I was wrong about you.
10:46
John Picarne, Assassin's Creed III
10:52
I'll be damned.
10:54
He did it.
10:55
The Battle of Bunker Hill is one of the most infamous missions in the series for its tedious
11:00
optional objectives, one of which being to air-assassinate the British leader, John Picarne,
11:06
without being detected.
11:08
By carefully maneuvering through the enemy camp, this is relatively simple, but requires
11:12
you to use one specific platforming route to reach Picarne on his horse.
11:25
In real life, Picarne did die in battle at Bunker Hill, though he wasn't stabbed by someone
11:32
jumping from a tree.
11:33
He was shot and killed in the battle's trenches while leading his men, rather than standing
11:38
back and sending them to their deaths.
11:40
But you can shoot him if you like, you just won't get full synchronization if you do.
11:46
You wield your blade like a man, but your knife like a child.
11:55
And more will die in her.
11:57
Because of her.
11:58
Let us know in the comments which Assassin's Creed events had you picking up a history book.
12:09
Thanks for watching.
12:10
If you enjoyed the video, there's more where that came from.
12:25
See you next time.
