00:00Albay representative Joey Salceda, chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means,

00:05stated that the most serious case of manipulation of the price in agriculture

00:08happened under the Duterte administration.

00:11He said that the import permit of rice in 2016 to 2018

00:15was the reason for the increase in the price of rice in 2018.

00:19Salceda insisted that this manipulation

00:21was a result of the confusion of the previous administration.

00:24He also announced the formation of a super committee

00:26to investigate the manipulation of the price

00:29and smuggling of food.

00:30Salceda requested documents from the NFA and the Bureau of Customs

00:34regarding the importation of rice at that time.

00:37He was aware that the Supreme Powers will use it if necessary.

00:41Salceda said that the economy lost P88.6 billion

00:46because of the manipulation.

00:47The issue only escalated when the Rice Tarification Law was implemented in 2019.
