How a mother taught her child about body boundaries

This mother gave an important lesson on consent to her nine-year-old daughter.

00:35And we got the flowers and I was taking money out of my purse.

00:51In that particular situation, we both of us couldn't do anything.

00:55But why don't they do that to adults?

00:57I don't know.

00:59Maybe it's because kids are smaller and cuter.

01:01Yeah, maybe it's also because kids don't really open up and say, you know, I don't want, I don't like.

01:15We spoke about how some people in the previous generation might not understand body boundaries.

01:19And they're not doing it to intentionally hurt.

01:23But it's just because they don't understand.

01:26After all, our body is ours and we have all the right to say no or move away.

01:56The gesture clearly hurt my child.

02:23Consent and boundaries are a sensitive subject, which is just getting some light these days.

02:28Even if you can't spread awareness, do not ruin the work by spreading misinformation.

02:41But the goal is to keep having conversations about body boundaries.

02:45So that children understand that ultimately their body is their own.

02:50If the adult does not know how else to show affection or doesn't know to seek consent.

02:55The child can't be responsible for that.
