01:10So inflation is a rise in prices, which means the decline in people's purchasing power.

01:14Like if you wore red lipstick to impress the hottest girl in school,

01:18but then everyone started wearing red lipstick,

01:20you would have less power and lipstick would lose its value.

01:22So why are we seeing super high prices for food right now?

01:26Well, the food supply is low.

01:27For one, transportation costs are higher.

01:30Did you know that 80% of lettuce is consumed on the East Coast

01:32and 95% of it is produced on the West?

01:35You know what they say about long-distance relationships.

01:38Another reason is to avoid food waste.

01:40As much as 40% of produce goes to waste from production to the shelf.

01:44Talk about being all dressed up with nowhere to go.

01:47And finally, the supply chain disruptions between COVID and the Russian war.

01:51Like Ukraine was the world's biggest wheat producer.

01:53People are having to go to other producers of wheat just to get it.

01:56And it's raising the cost.

01:58But before you resort to instant noodles, you have to try growing your own food.
