00:04what he calls ideological conformity, which to him means requiring Western civilization courses

00:10for students, eliminating diversity and equity programs across campuses, and reducing tenure

00:16protections for educators. The Republican governor said higher education agendas that provoke

00:21political activism are hostile to academic freedom and are not what we believe to be appropriate for

00:27the state of Florida. He plans to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion programs on

00:32college campuses by eliminating their funding. DEI initiatives help to fight underlying biases

00:38against specific groups while providing support for individuals of different races, genders,

00:43and sexual orientations. In recent months, DeSantis has prohibited gender identity and

00:48sexual orientation instruction in elementary schools, restricted what can be taught about

00:52racism, and eliminated high school students' opportunity to enroll in a new AP course on

00:56African-American studies.
