00:07Smiles. Similar to coulrophobia or the fear of clowns, researchers say there are actual psychological reasons

00:14why we fear these seemingly innocent things. The fear of clowns or smiles often stems from the feeling of not knowing

00:20what's going on in the mind of the person behind the face paint or expression. Psychologist Dr. Rami Nader explained that quote,

00:27There's this inherent mistrust that what they're presenting to you isn't what they're actually feeling.

00:31Large artificial displays of emotion are the foundation of the latest psychological horror flick, Smile, and the film's marketing team

00:38decided to play into that real-life fear. Performers were recently sent to baseball games where they donned

00:44foolishly out-of-place grins. The viral stunt was a home-run idea when it came to creeping out fellow spectators,

00:49but time will tell if it helps sell more movie tickets.
