Broad Front wins the ballot: Orsi is the new president in Uruguay

With 97.48% of the circuits counted, the Electoral Court confirmed the victory of Broad Front. The winning formula totaled 1,163,755 votes, while Álvaro Delgado-Valeria Ripoll reached 1,074,321. teleSUR

00:00In Uruguay, the candidate for the left-wing broad front party, Yamandu Orsi, has become

00:13the new president-elect after winning the election runoff on Sunday.

00:16With 100% of votes counted, the country's electoral court informed Orsi obtained 1,106,798

00:22votes, which represents more than 49% of the total cast.

00:27For his part, right-wing National Party candidate Álvaro Delgado obtained 1,101,296 votes,

00:35for 45%.

00:37The win signifies the return of the left party to Uruguayan presidency.

00:41The broad front had three consecutive terms in office from 2004 to 2019, but was succeeded

00:47by the right-wing government of President Luis Lacalle Po.

00:50In his victory speech, Orsi promised to strive for a country where plurality of options be

00:55respected and where no one would feel left out.
