Commanders defense scouting report: Dan Quinn still getting things done

From the sound of Broaddus' scouting report, Dan Quinn picked up right where he left off. His Commanders defense is rolling much like his Cowboys defenses did, and Broaddus gives a preview of what to expect in the video above.

00:19Dan Quinn is got, I'll tell you what, Dan Quinn has got one of the best tackling defenses

00:24in the National Football League, by the way.

00:25But not against the run?

00:26No, not against the run though.

00:28Top five though, top five.

00:30You know, when he was here, Dallas was the best tackling team, I didn't know this, Dallas

00:34was the best tackling team in the National Football League last year.

00:38And everywhere Dan Quinn's been, he's been in top five.

00:41See, you got to figure out what drills is he doing?

00:43That's what I was trying to remember.

00:44I was trying to think of like, God, how many of these practices did I watch in training

00:49camp and what was Dan Quinn and Joe Witt and all these guys doing?

00:55You know, I was sitting there probably talking to you or Dawson or somebody while I should

00:59have been watching tackling drills.

01:01Because everywhere Dan Quinn goes, his team's tackled, you know?

01:05And the Cowboys have really, it's one of the things they've really, really struggled at.

01:09We were on it last year when we were talking about you should probably just cap Mike McCarthy

01:13and make Dan Quinn head coach.

01:14Now that we saw what he's done, finding the offensive coordinator again.

01:19I kind of feel like that there's some people in the organization, in the Cowboys organization

01:24that would have, would have been dancing right with you.

01:26On that one.

01:27I think there were a lot that would have been happy.

01:28But I mean, revisionist history, we were like, can't, the defenses aren't good against these

01:33motion offenses and they don't beat any good teams.

01:37They get run on.

01:38I guess the running thing, though, seems to still be the case.

01:40Like Dan Quinn does struggle defensively against the run.

01:43There's been some struggle there.

01:44Their leading tacklers, actually, is Bobby Wagner and the two safeties.

01:49What does that tell you right there?

01:50Yeah, they're getting to the second, third one.

01:53I mean, I told you earlier, nobody, I mean, they're, they're like top three in allowing

01:58runs that first downs for first downs, like 93 first down, you know, conversion runs.

02:06Yeah, because they just don't, they give up, you know, they just give up yards running

02:09now.

02:10We'll see their, their pass rush has gotten a lot better.

02:14And the first five weeks of the season, they were, they were down in pressure rates.

02:19But since week five, and I looked this up because I was like, I watched all the sacks

02:24and then I started, I broke them down by pressures and stuff, just started watching.

02:28And the commanders, I was curious about this and I went and looked at the metrics on this.

02:32They've generated the third highest pressure rate of 41% since week five.
