We review some of the festive range from Italian retailer Carluccio's

00:00Hi everyone, I'm Catherine from Sussex World. I've got some lovely Christmas treats in front of me.

00:06I'm lucky enough to have been sent them from the wonderful team at Carluccio's,

00:10who've got their Christmas 2024 range out now available to order online.

00:15And I'm going to review a couple of the things they've sent me.

00:18And we're lucky enough in Sussex as well to have a Carluccio's restaurant in Chichester,

00:23which I know takes bookings now for Christmas and has a special festive menu.

00:28So we're doubly lucky.

00:30But what I'm going to taste today is a panettone.

00:34I hope I've got the pronunciation just about right there.

00:38Al cioccolato, which I guess is a chocolate panettone if you want to say it in an English accent.

00:46I've taken the liberty of unwrapping some of the packaging because it came so beautifully wrapped,

00:50but I thought it might take me 20 minutes just to open it on camera.

00:53So inside it came with a lovely gold bow on and it was all wrapped in plastic and everything.

00:59But the first thing that hit me when I took it out of the bag was, oh, my God, the smell.

01:03It's delicious. It smells really fruity.

01:08But when you get close, there's a real kind of hint of chocolate and everything.

01:14And more than anything else, it's massive.

01:18It would easily feed loads of people, I'd imagine.

01:22And it would look really special on any table at Christmas time.

01:25It just looks delicious and I can't wait to tuck in and try a little bit.

01:28So let me just clear a couple of these things out of the way.

01:32So we've got a little bit of space and I'm going to cut myself a slice.

01:38Here we go.

01:42It's really hard to know where to start.

01:44I don't want to cut into it because it's too beautiful.

01:47Oh, wow.

01:51I'm not sure how best you would serve this and I don't know.

01:53You could probably serve it on its own or maybe it would be lovely with some cream or some ice cream.

02:01Forgive me. I'm not sure how the traditional Italian way to serve it is.

02:08Here we go. I've cut myself a little slice.

02:11I say little. It actually looks quite big, really, doesn't it?

02:15But it looks delicious and you can see right through it.

02:18It's got so much filling distributed right the way through.

02:21So that's really yummy. So let's just give it a go.

02:29That's wonderful. It's so chocolatey.

02:33I'm a big chocoholic, so it was always going to work for me.

02:37But it has kind of got a fruity undertone as well.

02:43It's really moorish.

02:45I know it's obviously a traditional kind of Christmas pudding, but this would work for me any day of the year.

02:50Just like a little slice of this with my morning coffee would be lovely.

02:54And I wasn't sure what panettone was exactly, but it's part bread, part cake, according to the packaging,

03:03which makes perfect sense because it's got kind of a bread like structure as well.

03:07And this one, it says this chocolate panettone is a buttery and airy sponge,

03:12generously enriched with pieces of milk and dark chocolate, finished with a delicate layer of hazelnut icing.

03:18Exactly that. It looks absolutely delicious and it tastes good too.

03:23And if you don't fancy a big one or you just want to get someone like a little treat,

03:31they've got this teeny weeny one, the piccolo version, which is really cute because it's got a little hook.

03:37You could even hang it on a tree or just buy it as a little present for a friend or family.

03:43So they can have their own little individual one they don't have to share.

03:47And then in this amazing packaging here, you've got the Pandoro Classico,

03:54which is star shaped light and buttery sponge cake from Veneto with icing sugar to serve.

04:01And I looked at the pictures on the website of this one and I know that it's huge.

04:05Kind of comes topped like this, which looks absolutely delicious.

04:12And then the other thing I'm going to try today is the Bucci Al Rum,

04:16which is cocoa and hazelnut biscuits with a rum and dark chocolate filling,

04:21which is right up my street because I love a bit of a boozy chocolate treat, a boozy pudding.

04:28I love hearing these, so anything like that I'm really up for.

04:34These have got a really rum flavoured smell, which is great.

04:38And they've got a really generous filling, which is perfect.

04:42So let's give it a whirl.

04:45Mmm.

04:53You can really taste the alcohol in that, which is brilliant for me.

04:58That's delicious.

05:02It's still really chocolatey, but you've got a real kind of warming kick of rum.

05:08And the biscuits are nice. They're kind of soft, but still a little bit crunchy, which is good.

05:14It holds it all together well.

05:16And actually, one biscuit is quite a lot.

05:19There's quite a lot in the pack anyway.

05:21But even just one of these with a little cup of coffee would be delicious.

05:26A real festive flavour, a real festive treat.

05:31I'd highly recommend. And there's loads of other products on the website as well that I've had a look through.

05:36Things flavoured with limoncello and cherries and it all just sounds wonderful.

05:40So I'd totally advise you to go and have a look.
