‘Social media has been the ruin of society’: Should it be banned for under 16’s?

We ask Londoners if social media should be banned for under 16’s, after Australia plans to introduce the legislation.

00:00I think we're beyond being able to ban it without a lot of depression and a lot of kids doing it secretly.

00:09Yeah, I can see the advantage of that. There need to be some controls.

00:13I don't know about banning, but certainly they do because, you know,

00:16there have been sort of young teens committing suicide by what they've seen online and that in these groups.

00:24So, yeah, there has to be some control.

00:27Yeah, I'm glad that my children, it was just about starting, but no, they didn't get involved with it because it is a worry for parents.

00:36It's going to be really difficult to enforce. I think not allowing kids to use it during school

00:42so they're not distracted from learning what they should be learning, I think, is really important.

00:45Social media has been the ruin of our young society, to be quite honest. That's how I feel about it, to be quite honest.

00:53And I don't know, there's no answer. You can't turn it back. You can ban it.
