00:00Over 19,500 Ukrainian children have been forcefully deported by Russia since the beginning of

00:11the full-scale invasion.

00:12And until now, Kyiv managed to bring back only just over 1,000 of them.

00:19Ukraine's Commissioner for Human Rights says once taken to the Russian territory, they

00:23not only have their identities changed and official papers reissued to erase any connection

00:28to Ukraine, they also have to undergo some sort of military education.

00:34The step of militarization, all the Ukrainian children must be member of youth military

00:41organizations of Russian Federation.

00:44The main goal for Russians for deportation of Ukrainian children is grow up in a new

00:52generation of Russian army.

00:55In March 2023, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant

01:00for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia's Children Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova

01:05accusing them of overseeing the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children.

01:15Germany's biggest industrial union reached an agreement over a wage dispute within the

01:19country's metal and electrical industry.

01:22The new agreement by trade union IG Metall stipulated a wage increase amounting to 5.5%

01:29over the next 25 months.

01:43Workers initially demanded a 7% wage increase over a period of 12 months.

01:48In response, employers had offered a wage increase of 3.6% over a period of 27 months.

02:07Millions of employees at companies including Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Siemens would be affected

02:13by the agreement.

02:15Hundreds of thousands of employees across Germany have taken part in warning strikes

02:20over the last few weeks.

02:26The head of the Church of England resigned after an investigation found that he failed

02:30to tell police about serial physical and sexual abuse by a volunteer at Christian summer camps

02:36as soon as he became aware of it.

02:39Pressure had been growing on the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby since Thursday

02:44when his refusal to accept responsibility for his failure to report the abuse in England

02:48and in Africa in 2013 kindled anger about a lack of accountability within the English

02:54Church.

02:56The news comes against the backdrop of widespread historical sexual abuse in the Church of England.

03:02A 2022 report by the Independent Inquiry Child Sexual Abuse Organisation found the deference

03:10priests, taboos surrounding the discussion of sexuality and a culture that gave more

03:14support to alleged perpetrators than their victims helped make the Church of England

03:19a place where abusers could hide.

03:27The Biden administration said that Israel made good but limited progress in increasing

03:31the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza and that it therefore would not limit arms transfers

03:37to Israel as it threatened to do a month ago.

03:42The US had initially set a deadline last month for Israel to send more food and aid into

03:47Gaza or risk scaled back military support.

03:51However, relief groups say conditions are worse than at any point in the 13-month-old

03:56war.

03:57The decision from the US, Israel's key ally and largest provider of arms and other military

04:02aid, comes despite aid organisations declaring that Israel has failed to meet US demands

04:08to allow greater humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.

04:12Eight international aid groups said in a report that Israel failed to meet the US criteria

04:17and in fact took steps that dramatically worsened the situation on the ground, particularly

04:22in northern Gaza.

04:26The Azeri president used his opening speech at COP29 to launch what has been described

04:32as a strong attack on Western governments that buy his gas and yet criticise his country

04:39for its fossil fuel dependent economy.

04:42President Aliyev used this platform in front of world leaders to repeat that Azerbaijan's

04:47natural resources were, quote, a gift from God.

04:52Every natural resource, whether it's oil, gas, wind, sun, gold, silver, copper, all

05:01that are natural resources and countries should not be blamed for having them and should not

05:08be blamed for bringing these resources to the market because the market needs them.

05:14The people need them.

05:17So this is my message and as a president of COP29 of course we will be a strong advocate

05:24for green transition and we are doing it but at the same time we must be realistic.

05:30The Azeri president's words created a buzz among COP attendees.

05:35We spoke to some of them to hear their reaction.

05:38He is right and not right in a way because it really is God's plan to have the natural

05:43resources in certain countries and the fact that he's pointed out the hypocrisy is something

05:48we should really appreciate.

05:49It is true but at the same time we cannot deny that fossil fuels are harmful.

05:55So what do we do in return?

05:56We really have to make sure that the green energy transformation also gathers traction.

06:01The only way everybody moves is if you know that it's done fairly and he's right that

06:09the signals that need to happen and of course need to happen from the very, very big polluters,

06:14those that have been polluting for over a hundred years and so what the United States

06:18does, what the European Union does, what the UK does matters because that sends a signal.

06:23Aliyev's speech set the tone for the leaders gathering ahead of the tough negotiations

06:28on the details of the final agreement.

06:37The humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip remains critical and could deteriorate further.

06:42That's according to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine, UNRWA.

06:48Speaking to Euronews in Brussels, the director of UNRWA in Gaza, Scott Anderson, called upon

06:53all parties to the conflict to respect the sanctity of safe places for civilians.

07:01Give us a full picture here.

07:02What is the situation?

07:03Well, there's nowhere, nowhere safe in Gaza.

07:06That's been said by many people.

07:08I would echo that.

07:09Including the safe zones.

07:10Including the safe zones.

07:12And unfortunately, all parties to the conflict are not respecting the sanctity of sites that

07:18should be safe for civilians, which includes hospitals and includes schools, both UNRWA

07:23and PA schools.

07:25And we would reiterate that call that all parties to the conflict respect the sanctity

07:29of those places so that civilians can find safety for themselves and for their families.

07:34Anderson also responded to past allegations that his agency was too lenient with Hamas,

07:39which the EU designates as a terrorist organization.

07:42He stated that UNRWA took swift action after discovering that some of its employees were

07:47linked to Hamas.

07:48Can you say today that UNRWA has thrown out all Hamas operatives?

07:53Well, no.

07:55I don't think anybody can say anything about, with certainty about any of their workforce

08:00anywhere.

08:01We have over 13,000 people.

08:04We do take the neutrality very seriously, as shown by the commissioner general's very

08:09swift action.

08:10But no, I can't with certainty say that's done.

08:13I don't have evidence of more.

08:15I can't say that.

08:16And if we did, we would take action.
