Donald J Trump has been named as the 47th President of the United States after election night in the US. Former president secured victory after a dismal night for Kamala Harris and the Democrats. But what do locals think?

00:12The United States of America is over 4,700 miles away from Bristol. Many locals have

00:18said the US's election results will still impact us in our city. For example, Bristol

00:24has become a centre for debate of institutional racism in the West, which included the tearing

00:30down of Colston's statue and the renaming of several buildings such as the former University

00:35of Bristol Halls. The University of Bristol's paper, The Epigram, has said that this could

00:40cause a pushback for the Black Lives Matter movement in the city of Bristol. But how do

00:47locals feel about the American election results and did they come as a surprise to them?

00:53I'm thankful it's all over. I was getting very partisan towards the lady, you know,

00:58the Democrats. If I was American, I'd be a natural Democrat, I think. But thank goodness

01:03it's all over and I think give Trump his head, you know, and see what happens.

01:11I don't think anybody really likes him over here. That's a bit rude, but yes.

01:18Labour won a big victory fairly recently. But you never know, both in America and in

01:24this country, voters are pretty fickle at the moment. But yeah, I think everyone in

01:31Britain has good reason to be a bit worried about it.

01:36I'm not a Trump supporter. I think he's a bit weird, but I don't know.

01:42I've been to America a few times. I just think there's a redneck reaction. I do, honestly.

01:53And I think the world will regret it. I honestly do. That's my feelings.
