World leaders are gathering in Azerbaijan's capital Baku for the COP29 climate conference. High on this year's agenda are reducing global emissions and increasing climate funding.

00:14These have caused a surge in devastating floods, droughts, heat waves and storms around the

00:20A key aim at this year's conference is approving a huge increase in funding to help meet the

00:262030 Paris Agreement.

00:27However, several world leaders are sitting out this year's meeting, including European

00:32Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and U.S. President Joe Biden.

00:36It comes as experts warn that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's victory could prove a major

00:41setback for climate action.

00:43We know he's likely to reverse all clean energy policies and incentives in the U.S.

00:49He's going to go for fossil fuel extraction much more, which is going to be devastating

00:54for the planet, and he's not going to provide any climate finance, which is so vital for

01:00developing countries to transition away from fossil fuels.

01:04Host Azerbaijan is also facing scrutiny over its human rights record as well as accusations

01:10it's using the meeting to line up fossil fuel deals.
