So, how about Jennings, 306 in that game, two touchdowns, how good is he?
00:10
He is as calm, cool, and collected of a quarterback that you'll ever see and we even knew that
00:15
about him two years ago when he was a true freshman, he got thrown into a game when he
00:19
was the third stringer because the starter was hurt and the backup got hurt in that game
00:24
and he was awesome, helped beat Tulsa that day.
00:27
First season he had to take over as a starter for the conference championship game of the
00:31
bowl game because of injury to the starter and he was outstanding again.
00:35
He just is a really calm kid back there in the pocket, local kid too from South Dallas
00:41
who won a state title there at South Oak Cliff High School and man, he's been a pleasure
00:45
to work with and a pleasure to watch.
00:47
He just is so in command of the pocket and very in command of the team when he's on the
00:51
field.
00:52
I mean, they started, they got the lead early in this game on Johnson's TD run and then
00:59
they just blew him out and I was surprised because I think Holstein's a good quarterback.
01:05
I don't think he played like the last 10 minutes of the game, right?
01:08
They took him out because it was such a blowout and that team was trying to go to 8-0 for
01:15
the first time since Dan Marino.
01:16
I mean, they have been a very big surprise.
01:19
I think I'm really not that surprised that SMU's good.
01:25
Like I said, you knew they were good last year.
01:27
They're still good.
01:30
And the reason they got there last year is because while they get so much credit for
01:34
their offense, their defense was outstanding last year.
01:37
They were top 25 in the nation in most major categories and they're doing it again this
01:41
year defensively.
01:43
And I thought Saturday against Pitt was about the best I had seen them play, particularly
01:47
and just basic things like tackling and Pitt struggled.
01:50
Pitt didn't tackle guys and they had a receiver horizontal coming down to the ground at one
01:55
point and he winds up with a 40-yard catch and run after the play.
01:58
SMU, though, wrapped guys up.
02:01
They really put a ton of pressure too on Eli Holstein.
02:03
That's why I don't think he had a very good night against him as well.
02:06
Their defense really, as much as Rhett Lashley's an offensive guy and he gets credit for that
02:11
and he should, I mean, they score 40 a game, defensively is where they really made the
02:15
difference the last couple of years.
02:16
Is that kid Davis okay?
02:19
Like I saw him carried off the field.
02:22
I was watching when he hit his head.
02:25
Is that kid all right?
02:27
So we did find out he actually made it back to the stadium before the game was over.
02:31
He was on the sideline for the fourth quarter, did have a cervical collar on.
02:36
Like it is a lot of times nowadays, like it probably should be too, there is a lot of
02:39
precautionary stuff that's done when you see shots to the head, shots to the neck, things
02:43
like that.
02:44
I haven't gotten any update on him yet this week.
02:46
They got by this week, so not a lot going on, but at least we know he was back from
02:50
the hospital before the game ended.
02:52
So take me back to the Duke game because that game was way wilder than the pick game that
02:58
you won in overtime in Durham and you had a bunch of turnovers in that game, but you
03:02
still won.
03:04
Just six.
03:05
Is that a lot?
03:06
Yeah.
03:07
Six turnovers.
03:08
And Johnny still five picks.
03:11
Three picks and he had two fumbles and he lost and he had two other fumbles, one that
03:17
he recovered and one that the left guard recovered.
03:19
I mean, that's a game that you look back at it and it's like six turnovers and they didn't
03:24
take it away once.
03:25
They got no business winning that game.
03:27
But Duke scored zero points off of turnovers, including the last three possessions of regulation.
03:33
They got the ball three times in SMU territory, missed a field goal, had to punt and then
03:39
on the last play of regulation, a ridiculous play by Jafari Harvey to block a 30-yard field
03:44
goal, which was their only hope.
03:46
And then they went on and won it in overtime.
03:48
Sometimes you're living right when you're having a magical season and that definitely
03:52
was a night where they were living right.
