00:04Just like opinion poll after opinion poll in the run-up to election day,

00:08the results in Dixville-Notch showed a dead heat between the two presidential candidates.

00:14The New Hampshire Hamlets registered voters gathered at midnight

00:17to cast the first ballots in this year's race, as they have every year since 1960.

00:23It's just a wonderful tradition, but it's also, I think, democracy in its purest sense.

00:30All six votes were tallied and a tie was announced shortly afterwards.

00:35In the last two presidential elections, Dixville voters supported the Democratic nominee.

00:40However we vote isn't going to sway the election, that's for sure.

00:44But if we can encourage people to vote, if they can say,

00:48hey these guys got up at midnight to vote, 100% of the town got up at midnight and went to vote.

00:54New Hampshire allows municipalities with fewer than 100 residents to open their

00:59polling stations at midnight. But most people on the east coast began voting

01:03six or seven hours later on Tuesday, with long lines forming early.

01:08Polls showed no decisive lead for either Trump or Harris right up until voting day,

01:13in the bitterly fought, tightly contested presidential race.

01:16You know this is very crucial, you know what I'm saying, I made sure I was up at 5.30.

01:21More than 82 million people have already taken advantage of early voting to cast their ballots,

01:26out of more than 160 million registered voters.
