Has your yogurt passed its expiry date? Which doorbell is the right one? Community participation in the app, "Be my Eyes," is helping people with visual impairments. The app will be equipped with an AI assistant.

00:00Developers of Be My Eyes want to use a chat bot in their app.

00:05Users will be able to take a picture which is analysed and described with a bot based on chat GPT.

00:11And if the AI gets stuck, real people can still be called in to help, as was the case before.

00:19The app allows blind people to request assistance.

00:22Be My Eyes sends a request to volunteers, matching language and time zones.

00:27The first volunteer to respond is connected to the person seeking help.

00:32The app then transmits video to the volunteer via the user's camera.

00:36This allows problems to be solved together.

00:40Such as small tasks like reading out labels, helping with groceries or even withdrawing cash from an ATM.

00:58Anyone can register in the app as a volunteer or a visually impaired user.

01:03And there's no limit to the length or number of calls.

01:08The app also helps when it comes to problems with products.

01:11To do this, it establishes a direct connection to customer service.

01:15The representatives on the company's end are specially trained to advise people with visual impairments.
