00:00Who will start for the New England Patriots on Sunday, although it is looking more and more like Drake May.
00:06Yeah, that's what I think.
00:07So, Curtis is concerned, as some should be, that there is another injury or there is a compounded concussion of sorts or something that occurs.
00:22What's the only way this season is a real failure?
00:28Drake May gets hurt and is unable to participate in training camp.
00:35Right. Either he's awful or not what we thought, talent-wise, can't perform.
00:39But that's been looking the other way.
00:41Right. Or he suffers some kind of catastrophic injury to his head that impedes his future ability to play.
00:47And I'm not saying I know. I'm not a doctor. I don't know anything about this.
00:50I'm just going by what people have told me that are far smarter than I am,
00:54which is that the closer the proximity to the concussion, the more damaging it is.
00:59And a concussion is a progressive issue, meaning each one you get is worse than the one you had before.
01:06Yeah, but I look at it the same way I do with any injury.
01:08He could suffer any catastrophic injury in a football game.
01:11Yeah, but if he blows out a knee, everything, he's back by next fall.
01:14But Curtis is right that there would be more damage done if he is to get concussed again, if he's to get hit on Sunday.
01:23Yeah, but that, no.
01:25I mean, Tua's had four of them and he keeps coming back.
01:28Oh, yeah. He's the guy you can build around.
01:30No, but I'm just saying.
01:31That's kind of my point.
01:32This one didn't look like a Tua concussion at all.
01:35No, it was barely even like a hit to the head.
01:37He was like, yeah, I can go play in the second half.
01:40If he was like Frozen Solid or that kind of thing, you might be like, let him rest for a minute.
01:48But it was like one of those things, unless you were at the game and talking to him,
01:52you wouldn't have known that he had a concussion.
01:54Like Devontae Adams got pulled from the game last night and miraculously came back in the second half of the fourth quarter.
01:59Like, I don't know.
02:00Because he didn't have a concussion.
02:02Well, he had what we would call getting your bell rung.
02:04Right, exactly.
02:05And yes, it's a concussion technically, but it's not the he's out cold, he's drunk, what we call it, or he's frozen.
02:15How many times would you guess getting your bell rung happened to you in your NFL career?
02:19A lot.
02:20A hundred?
02:21I mean, I couldn't put in a lot of times because you'll be like, whoa, you know, like you'll get hit and you'll get up and like things will be spinning.
02:28And you're like, you know, and I used to just water to the face, like I have to shake it off for a second.
02:32But that happens like constantly, you know, especially if you're in the trenches and you're taking you're just hitting people in general.
02:41I mean, it's just like it happens all the time.
02:43So and then from Splinter in the Twitch chat, you can watch the show every day on Twitch.
02:48Just go to Twitch and follow WEI.
02:50What do you gain from playing him this week?
02:52Wiggy, you've said it a million times.
02:54He gains that experience.
02:55Yeah, he does.
02:56But I don't mind if you sit him for a week.
02:58Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
03:00Guess who wants to jump in?
03:01Everyday listener, Rob Nickovich.
03:03OK.
03:04Morning, Nicko.
03:05What's up, guys?
03:06I'm just heading, heading into school.
03:09We're a little, little slow start.
03:11But I was listening to the discussion here on Drake May, if he should play.
03:16Hell yeah, he should play.
03:17He should play.
03:18Yes.
03:19Dude, this is football, man.
03:22This is a contact physical sport that you sign up to play
03:27and you're getting paid a decent amount of money to do it.
03:30I understand.
03:31OK, he got hit in the head last week.
03:32But he wasn't KO'd.
03:34He wasn't sleeping.
03:35He didn't do the fencing position like we've seen time and time again.
03:39So I honestly think he got hit in the head.
03:42Independent neurologist, take him to the tent.
03:44OK, so he got hit.
03:45All right, take him out.
03:47When you pass all the stuff that you go through all week,
03:49you do your running, you do your testing, you go in,
03:52you do your baseline before the season, you come and do the test again.
03:57And he passes all that.
03:59Yeah, go play.
04:00This is football.
04:01Like you're going to get hit.
04:02If you're a linebacker, you're going to get hit.
04:04If you're a lineman, we all know at some point you're going to get hurt.
04:07So I just think you got to put him out there
04:10and you got to continue to progress on his evolution.
04:14But for those that say,
04:15what do you gain by playing him this week as opposed to waiting one week?
04:19I mean, confidence, continue to grow.
04:22Like, dude, you're doing well.
04:24You and I think Dan Marino,
04:26like the only two guys to have the touchdowns and the yardage
04:30in his first three, two games.
04:32So you have the potential here to continue to build.
04:36And then the receivers, like, man, they need to continue to grow as well.
04:40Some of those throws,
04:41one of those throws that he made before he went down was an insane throw.
04:45Got out of the pocket on the run through a dime,
04:47like 50 yards down the field.
04:48So you just got to continue to grow with your first year, continue to get –
04:54and he's not – listen, when you're a football player,
04:57unless you play for the Colts and you tap out because you're too tired,
05:02you know, you're tough.
05:05And Mayo, listen, hey, where's all the talk about the toughness
05:09and we're a soft team.
05:11You know, listen, there are motivators in football,
05:14and when you hear things that motivate you,
05:16you go out there and you try to perform at a high level.
05:18I think they won last week.
05:20Great.
05:21They got a win.
05:22Awesome.
05:23Everyone's happy.
05:24Maybe it's a little more quiet.
05:25If they would have lost, yeah, it would have blown up even more.
05:27But listen, Drake May needs to get out there.
05:30They're playing a football team that this is a winnable game.
05:32I think they're going to win.
05:33So you put Drake May out there and they have a much better shot of winning.
05:39Ningo, you know more than I.
05:41I'll defer to you.
05:42I don't know what they gained, but I'll listen to you here.
05:45Just on the concussion topic,
05:47have you ever seen a more heroic performance following a massive concussion
05:51than what Julian Edelman did in Super Bowl XLIX?
05:55I mean, Julian is a beast.
05:59Julian is one of those guys I know if I was in a street fight,
06:03I'm calling Julian because he might not be the biggest guy,
