New research conducted has found that poor road quality and potholes are responsible
00:07
for more than one in five tyre replacements in the city. A month-long study conducted
00:13
by HIQ Tyres and Auto Care has highlighted the extent of this issue, revealing that drivers
00:20
in Bristol are disproportionately affected by road damage compared to other regions in
00:25
the UK.
00:29
Thank you, Charlie. So shall we move on to our second top news story in the city this
00:34
week? Tell me about that one.
00:37
Next is that bus lanes along a major road in South Bristol have been approved, but a
00:43
controversial plan to ban a certain turn-in has been paused. The new bus lanes will run
00:49
along the southern half of the A37 Wells Road and be in force for 12 hours a day.
00:56
Bristol City Council also initially proposed banning a turn onto West Town Lane for drivers
01:02
travelling up north along the Wells Road due to road safety fears and the potential for
01:08
blocking traffic, but this proposal will not be immediately taken forward after a pushback
01:15
by local residents.
01:19
Thank you, Charlie. So we will see how that one pans out in the future. So shall we move
01:24
on to our third and final top news story in the city this week? Tell me about that.
01:29
Finally, it's that a large part of the historic HQ of BBC Bristol has been put on the market.
01:38
The 90-year-old site on White Ladies Road in Clifton has gone up for sale for an undisclosed
01:44
price. The sale listing says it is suitable for a variety of uses, subject to planning,
01:52
but the BBC says this is only a partial sale and that it intends to continue broadcasting
01:59
from the site.
