00:00President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr. is positive that the opening of the Logistics Distribution Center in Laguna will greatly help our economy.

00:10Aside from strengthening import and export activities, especially in the Calabar Zone,

00:15it will also result in more jobs for our countrymen.

00:27That is how President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr. described the opening of the MERSK Optimus Distribution Center in Laguna as his priority.

00:35It covers an area of 10 hectares.

00:37The President insisted that it will serve as a pathway to strengthen the logistics system in the country

00:42which will greatly help the economy of Laguna, particularly the logistics sector.

00:47With the grand opening of the MERSK Optimus Distribution Center,

00:52our logistics system will be a step closer to become a powerful force,

00:57bridging our islands, breathing life into our industries, our businesses,

01:02bringing together our people in a path towards sustained development.

01:06The MERSK Optimus Distribution Center attests to the shared vision of MERSK Philippines and Solid Group Incorporated,

01:15a vision for a more inclusive and sustainable growth.

01:19It will also provide a pathway for the establishment for stronger import and export activities,

01:24especially in the Calabar Zone, which will result in the strengthening of the supply chain,

01:28increasing the capacity of the administration to decongest Manila,

01:31and widening the opportunities in the province, especially in the construction of jobs.

01:36In the coming years, the MERSK Optimus Distribution Center is expected to create employment

01:42for 1,000 people in its surrounding communities and indirect employment for another 1,000 individuals,

01:51from vendors and service providers to truckers and beyond.

01:54When a large plant such as this is put up in a community,

02:00the downstream employment that comes, both the full employment and partial employment,

02:07is usually three times the direct employment in the facility.

02:14So, it is a great boon to the local community.

02:17The President also praised the company's efforts to build the Warehouse and Distribution Center

02:22that has a sustainable future in line with the government's vision to achieve net zero carbon emissions.

02:29From utilizing solar power to reduce its grid consumption by 30%,

02:34to deploying electric vehicles for the last mile services,

02:38it is committed to earning a gold certification under the leadership in energy and environmental design.

02:46Environmental stewardship is a cornerstone of this administration's agenda,

02:51and it is heartening to see the private sector partners echoing this commitment.

02:57It is more critical as we face natural calamities such as the typhoons and storms

03:02that have intensified because of climate change.

03:05The MERSK Optimus Distribution Center has a 76,000-pallet storage capacity

03:10that will serve as a transport hub for Central Luzon.

03:13It also has a 75-dock for outbound and inbound operations.

03:17It is the largest warehouse and distribution hub of the company.

03:21Meanwhile, the President gave a directive to local governments

03:25to prepare for the possible effects of the León Tsunami,

03:28which is currently affecting extreme northern Luzon.

03:32Unfortunately, it looks like it will come again.

03:35So let's prepare well.
