At least 63 people have died in eastern Spain after flash floods swept away cars, turned village streets into rivers and disrupted rail lines and highways in the worst natural disaster to hit the European nation in recent memory.

00:00Dear citizens, as you know, yesterday our country was hit by the worst drought in a century.

00:13There are dozens of flooded municipalities, roads and roads cut off, bridges destroyed by the violence of the waters.

00:22First of all, I want to convey on behalf of the Government of Spain, but I am convinced of the whole of the Spanish society,

00:30all our solidarity and affection to the families of the people who have died in this tragedy.

00:36Let us know in the Valencian community and in Castilla and La Mancha.

00:41Our absolute priority is to help you.

00:44Public administrations are working, we are working in a coordinated way to make it possible.

00:50And we are going to put all the necessary means today, tomorrow and the time it takes for us to recover from this tragedy.

00:59We are not going to leave you alone.

01:01Evidently, there are also those who see their home denied, their belongings destroyed, their lives covered in mud.

01:10I know that behind all these damages there are decades of effort, vital projects today plunged into the most absolute uncertainty.

01:19But we are also going to help you.
