00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr. led unveiling of a Danish-based distribution and transport hub

00:07located on a sprawling 10-hectare Laguna property. And as PTV's Kenneth Paciente reports,

00:13the president hailed its coming to the country as it soon will directly employ a thousand workers

00:20and a thousand more indirect livelihood beneficiaries from the local community.

00:24A boost to the economy. That's how President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr. described the launching

00:32of the Maersk Optimus Distribution Center in Laguna which he led today. Due to its size of

00:3710 hectares, the president emphasized how it will serve as a means to strengthen the

00:41country's logistics sector which will ramp up economic growth even more.

00:45With the grand opening of the Maersk Optimus Distribution Center, our logistics system will

00:52be a step closer to become a powerful force, bridging our islands, breathing life into our

00:58industries, our businesses, bringing together our people on a path towards sustained development.

01:04The Maersk Optimus Distribution Center attests to the shared vision of Maersk Philippines

01:11and Solid Group Incorporated, a vision for a more inclusive and sustainable growth.

01:17He also mentioned how the establishment will pave the way for stronger import and export

01:21activities, especially in Calabarzon, and enhance the supply chain at the same time.

01:26This is also in line with the administration's goal to decongest Manila and expand opportunities

01:31in the provinces, especially in job creation. In the coming years, the Maersk Optimus Distribution

01:38Center is expected to create employment for 1,000 people in its surrounding communities

01:44and indirect employment for another 1,000 individuals, from vendors and service

01:50providers to truckers and beyond. When a large plant such as this

01:55is put up in a community, the downstream employment that comes, both the full employment

02:04and partial employment, is usually three times the direct employment in the facility.

02:13It is a great boon to the local community. The president also praised the company's

02:17effort to establish the warehouse and distribution center while considering

02:21the preservation of the environment, aligned with the government's goal to achieve net

02:25zero carbon emissions. From utilizing solar power to reduce its grid consumption by 30 percent,

02:31to deploying electric vehicles for the last mile services, it is committed to earning a gold

02:38certification under the leadership in energy and environmental design. Environmental stewardship

02:45is a cornerstone of this administration's agenda, and it is heartening to see the private sector

02:52partners echoing this commitment. It is more critical as we face natural calamities such

02:57as the typhoons and storms that have intensified because of climate change.

03:02The Maersk Optimus Distribution Center has a 76,000 pallet storage capacity

03:08that will serve as a transport hub for Central Luzon and boasts 75 docks for outbound and inbound

03:13operations. It is by far the largest warehouse and distribution hub of the company.
