00:40Naim Qassem will succeed Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in September in an Israeli

00:44airstrike.

00:45Qassem is a founding member of Hezbollah and served as Nasrallah's deputy chief for more

00:51than three decades.

00:53He was often the public face of the group, attending rallies and speaking to foreign

00:57journalists when Nasrallah went in hiding.

01:00In their announcement, Hezbollah vowed to continue Nasrallah's policies.

01:09Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has claimed that Russia lost 800 men on the Eastern

01:14Front in one day of fighting.

01:18Zelenskiy said this on Monday in Reykjavik at the Ukraine Nordic Summit, where he met

01:22with prime ministers of Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden.

01:27He said Ukraine has to think first of all about people and then about the land.

01:33For them it's not people, I mean, so they push them and a lot of Russians are killed

02:48party retained its strong position and secured a majority of seats in the parliament.

02:52However, the four main opposition parties announced they did not recognize the results

02:57amid reports of voting violations.

02:59The election commission announced that the Georgian Dream took nearly 54% of the votes.

03:05The elections that took place on Saturday have been described in news reports as crucial

03:09for Georgia's path forward, determining whether the country will continue to pursue EU membership

03:15or move toward closer ties with Russia.

03:19Brussels doesn't trust the result of the Georgian elections and asked to conduct a

03:23swift and independent analysis months after the country's accession process was halted.

03:31The victory of incumbent Prime Minister Irakli Kobakidze's party, Georgian Dream, was marred

03:36by allegations of intimidation, coercion and vote-buying.

03:45The OSCE joint observation mission argues that although the elections were well-organized,

04:03they included widespread allegations of pressure on electors. Several European ministers have

04:08issued a statement expressing concern about the possible violation of international standards

04:13for fair elections.

04:20The EU's doubts have been compounded by the visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban

04:44on Monday. Hungary holds the six-month presidency of the EU, although the High Representative

04:48Josep Borrell has pointed out that he does not represent the bloc.

04:59NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte confirms the presence of North Korean troops in the

05:05Russian border region of Kursk after a meeting with South Korea's secret services.

05:18For Rutte, the Russian President's reliance on the support of third countries is a sign

05:40of Putin's desperation. Ukraine's secret services had already detected 11,000 North Korean troops

05:47training in eastern Russia. North Korea had already sent both arms and manpower to Russia.

06:01The result of the US presidential election will impact the outcome of the war in Ukraine

06:07and by extension the security of the European Union. While Donald Trump claims he could

06:13negotiate a peace deal between Kyiv and Moscow in 24 hours, his return to the White House

06:19and isolationist stance suggests that Europeans might have to shoulder most of the support

06:25for Ukraine.

06:44In contrast, even if US Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed firm support for Ukraine,

07:02Europeans will likely be called upon to strengthen their defence capabilities.

07:13Regardless of the US election outcome, the European Union is expected to maintain its

07:30support for Kyiv, but it will likely need to re-evaluate their priorities and strategy.

07:44The US election serves as a wake-up call for the EU. Europeans must prepare to navigate

07:51a rapidly changing world order and may need to rely more on themselves in this new geopolitical

08:17landscape.

08:21The leader of the Social Democratic Party announced that her party is leading in the

08:27polls for Lithuania's second and final round of parliamentary elections. Voters headed

08:33to the ballots as strict COVID-19 measures during the pandemic, political scandals and

08:38an influx of migrants from neighbouring Belarus hurt the popularity of the current Prime Minister's

08:42government.

08:46The vote in Lithuania, which borders Russia to the west and Belarus to the east, comes

08:50at a time when Russia's military campaign in Ukraine is fueling greater concerns about

08:55Moscow's intentions, particularly in the strategically important Baltic region.

09:01It will set the political tone for the next four years, but despite a possible shift to

09:05the left, analysts say there won't be a significant change to Lithuania's foreign policy.

09:11The Social Democrats are broadly supportive of continuing aid to Ukraine and keeping the

09:16defence spending above 3% of GDP.

09:47International negotiations are underway to clarify the implementation of the Global Biodiversity

10:02Framework adopted by nearly 200 countries at the end of 2022. It includes 23 targets.

10:16And only 8% in marine and coastal. So there is a strong call to action in the national

10:24action plans or in the updated targets from the different countries to enhance the protection.

10:33But that target cannot go alone without the other target, that is the target number two,

10:41that is to promote the restoration.

10:45The European Union claims to be entering the final discussions as a leader in the fight

10:51for biodiversity.

10:53We had Natura 2000 as a vast network of connected protected sites. So because of that in the

11:02nature restoration law, we are quite confident that the 2030 goal for the land we will relatively

11:10soon reach. For the water, it's a bit more complicated. But also on this we are working

11:17a lot. We will come forward with a water resilience strategy.

11:22According to the UN, green investments need to be tripled to achieve the 2030 targets.

11:39To transform in action the promises to stop the destruction of biodiversity.
