00:00The Voter's Information Awareness Forum and Demonstration was a success

00:05by the new automated counting machine for students in Cebu City.

00:09This is Jesse Atienza of PTV in Balitang Pambansa.

00:14The squares and rectangles in the surroundings

00:17will be used by the ballot in the midterm elections in May.

00:23The Commission on Elections officials presented this in Cebu City

00:28for the first time to show how the new automated counting machine works.

00:34This was done in front of hundreds of students of Cebu Normal University.

00:39Comalec Chairman George Erwin Garcia was the first one in the forum.

00:44Garcia said that the voice of the youth is important for the country.

00:49We are expecting 68 million voters in the whole Philippines

00:53including the 1.4 million projection of overseas Filipino voters.

00:58And therefore, the 24 million is not a big percentage of our voters.

01:04And therefore, if they will vote as a group,

01:08I am sure that our future will be better.

01:11Aside from the discourse, the students also participated in the mock elections in the forum.

01:18A way for them to be more prepared for one of the most important days in the country.

01:23It will give us insights and more knowledge and be educated on what are the cons,

01:30the pros of voting and what are the things that we need to consider.

01:39The machines will be used for the 2025 midterm elections.

01:44But Comalec does not want to let them down.

01:47That is why they are ready for any kind of obstacle in the new automated counting machine.

01:52If the machine malfunctions, we have 110 repair hubs in the whole Philippines.

01:58Before, the repair hub is only in Santa Rosa.

02:01Now, 110. Every province has a repair hub.

02:04And at the same time, we have 6,000 contingency machines

02:09that are on standby in different provinces in case of an emergency.

02:14So at this point, we do not expect that there will be a problem like what we have experienced before

02:20because these are new machines.

02:22Comalec and Cebu Normal University also joined a memorandum of understanding

02:27to strengthen the cooperation of the two institutions.
