24/10/2024
The block's exports of wind turbines, solar panels and liquid biofuels saw substantial growth between 2022 and 2023, but a more balanced import-export trade-off is still a long way to go, new Eurostat data shows.

What's the EU's green energy import-export trade-off?
00:10
The EU continues to import a substantial amount of green energy infrastructure.
00:17
That's particularly true for solar panels.
00:21
Last year, the EU sourced almost 20 billion euros in solar panels from outside the bloc,
00:29
while its exports didn't reach 1 billion.
00:33
The biofuel trade-off is negative too, with imports valued at almost 4 billion euros
00:41
compared to just over 2 billion in exports.
00:45
In terms of wind turbines, the trade-off is positive.
00:50
EU exports exceeded imports by 1.7 billion euros last year.
00:57
So who are the EU's biggest green energy partners?
01:02
When it comes to solar panels, China supplies a staggering 98% of it.
01:09
Beijing also sells the EU the most biofuels, although a significant share also comes from
01:18
the UK, Brazil, Malaysia and Argentina.
01:23
For wind turbines, Indian imports have the lion's share, 59%.
