00:16Rafael Bandayrel has more.
00:19Jackie Buntan!
00:26Filipino-American kickboxer Jackie Buntan's hunt for one championship gold is back on.
00:33The California native will take on French contender Anissa Mexen for the inaugural One Women's Strawweight Kickboxing World Championship at 1169 Inside Lumpini Stadium on November 9.
00:46Buntan will receive another shot at the gold after losing her initial attempt at the Muay Thai belt when she fell to Smila, the Hurricane Sundela.
00:55Ever since losing to the Swedish teen phenom, Buntan racked up four impressive victories, including an all-out war against the tough Martine Micheleto in her last time out.
01:06Should Buntan win the belt, she'll be the first fighter of Filipino descent to win either a kickboxing or Muay Thai crown in the Asia-based promotion.
01:15The Filipinos really took me in and I think they can, you know, I'm very relatable to them.
01:21Not just as an athlete, but just as a normal Filipino daughter, Filipino-American sister or whatever.
01:28So they always have my back, whether it's win or lose, they're always coming to my defense.
01:33And I don't even know these people, but it's like a whole army behind me.
01:37However, it will be easier said than done against Meksen, a staple in the women's pound-for-pound list in the world of kickboxing.
01:45Most of this fuel is knowing that I, you know, on paper with our numbers stacked together, I am the underdog in this fight.
01:54You know, she has way more experience. She's been in kickboxing.
01:58So that's my fuel is being able to fight somebody on paper better than me.
02:04And that's the whole goal behind it.
02:06Buntan will be joining Filipino Danny, the King Kingad, who takes on top-ranked Adriano Miquino Moraes in a flyweight MMA rematch.
