00:07
Live right here on this Monday with the pro football doc.
00:10
Doctor David Chow joining us to recap a Sunday slate around the
00:14
National Football League and look forward to another double
00:17
header on this Monday night to end out week 7. Doctor Chow as
00:20
always. We appreciate the time. Thanks for being here on the
00:23
early line.
00:25
Always happy to be here. Not happy to have lots of injuries,
00:28
doctor detail from yesterday and many of them significant,
00:31
especially at the quarterback position doc. Let's start with
00:34
what we saw in Cleveland closing minutes of the opening half to
00:37
Sean Watson goes down with a non-contact injury. The Browns
00:40
saying after the game, they fear it is a torn Achilles from what
00:44
we could see on replay and video. It's certainly look to be that
00:48
but we're not doctors. You definitely are. What did you see
00:52
with the Sean Watson's injury?
00:55
What do you expect for the remainder of the year for the Browns
00:58
quarterback? Look, normally we go by from the war room on 95%
01:01
confidence before we give an injury opinion. This was 99.9 and
01:04
we had it up. The guys in the war room were great. We had it up
01:07
within 30 seconds on Twitter. It's gotten like, I don't know
01:10
three plus million views or whatever a close-up of the calf
01:13
reverberation Achilles, very clear. You don't need it. You
01:16
don't need it. You don't need it. You don't need it. You don't
01:19
need it. You don't need it. You don't need it. You don't need it.
01:22
Unfortunately, more clear than Aaron Rodgers last year. So
01:25
unfortunate here, Deshaun Watson finally was playing better
01:28
early in that game. And then now this and he's done for the
01:31
season and I have no idea what the cat, you know, implications
01:34
are and future are. I can't tell you he's done for the season
01:37
period. End of story. It will be no late season. Come back, etc.
01:40
Doctor, what do you expect for the rest of the season?
01:43
I think we're going to see a lot of good things. I think we're
01:46
going to see a lot of good things. I think we're going to see a
01:50
What's the latest on your beliefs here on? Brandon. Ayuck
01:59
What's the latest on your beliefs here on Brandon Ayuck in his
02:02
Well, by video. We only had a side video. We didn't have one
02:07
from the front because players blocked it, but it was a right
02:11
knee issue significant knee ligament issue at least MCL
02:15
At least MCL tear, sprain tear, and the possibility of ACL, we didn't see the distinct video to be
02:23
able to make that 95% call.
02:25
But the MCL for sure.
02:27
So at a minimum he's a four-week IR.
02:29
There are some loose reports about fear of ACL on top of that, including from the head coach.
02:35
It's usually pretty straightforward.
02:37
So at this point, anything short of season ending would be great news for IU.
02:42
And here's the irony.
02:44
In-game yesterday, you had IU out.
02:47
You had Debo sick and out.
02:49
You had Jawan Jennings not starting the game.
02:52
You could argue the number one receiver was Ricky Pearsall, who got shot six weeks ago.
02:57
That was crazy.
02:59
Made his NFL debut yesterday for the 49ers, who have been plagued by injuries in the offensive
03:05
side.
03:07
Of course, we still have not seen Christian McCaffrey at any point this season.
03:10
Dr. Chow, back to the quarterbacks.
03:12
And although it was an easy win for the Commanders to cruise to a 5-2 start, rookie quarterback
03:18
and phenom Jaden Daniels injured early in the game, did come back to the sidelines in
03:23
the second half in street clothes.
03:25
He told reporters who were at the game, I'm good, I'm fine.
03:29
His mom tweeted out that he's fine, not to worry.
03:33
Do you think Jaden Daniels is actually fine?
03:36
Doc, can we expect to see him play in a matchup of one versus two as the Commanders host
03:41
the Bears on Sunday afternoon?
03:44
I do believe Jaden Daniels is fine in the big picture, but not fine for next week for
03:51
one versus two.
03:53
By video, that early long run, that was a rib cartilage issue.
03:58
Left lower rib soft cartilage.
04:00
That's why x-rays were negative.
04:02
There's no fracture there because there's no bone there.
04:04
It's rib cartilage.
04:06
But a lot of oblique muscles attached, torso rotation, control, painful.
04:13
I think he misses a short stint.
04:15
No IR, no surgery, but I think it's pretty tough to play through that this next week.
04:21
This in some ways is a little bit Derek Carr-ish, and he's missing two games now.
04:27
And, you know, not exact comp, but somewhat similar.
04:31
If you think back to Justin Herbert early last year against the Chiefs rib soft cartilage,
04:35
he played through some with an injection, but he's a vet.
04:39
I think he misses one or two weeks.
04:42
Interesting to watch that play out, Doc.
04:44
But we do have Monday Night Football, a doubleheader today over at sixsquared.com.
04:47
Take a look at the field views tonight.
04:49
Pretty healthy in Tampa Bay and Baltimore, but I have questions for you on Tampa Bay.
04:53
Number one with Mike Evans and that hamstring injury, and Vida Vea, their superstar defensive tackle.
04:58
What are we hearing the latest on those two guys?
05:00
I mean, good news on both those in terms of video and the reports.
05:04
It looks like the hamstring is fine for Mike Evans.
05:07
More tightness in Vida Vea seems fine.
05:09
So it should be a good matchup with some relatively healthy teams there.
05:14
The other game, you know, the concern is some DBs for Arizona Cardinals and also ability to stop the run.
05:21
And we know Jim Harbaugh wants to run the football.
05:24
And, by the way, his heart is fine.
05:28
Yes, that is very good news.
05:30
Doc, from the wide receiver position in that game between the Chargers and the Cardinals,
05:35
a couple of young wideouts, their status a little bit in question.
05:38
Marvin Harrison Jr., specifically for Arizona, exited the Cardinals' previous game with a concussion.
05:44
Can we expect to see MHJ suit up for Arizona tonight?
05:49
Absolutely. He's already been cleared.
05:51
He's had full practices.
05:53
He is slated to go.
05:54
Barring some sort of last-second surprise, he is absolutely cleared and ready to go.
05:59
Ladd McConkie for the Chargers, on the other hand, still questionable with the hip.
06:03
We don't have a lot of video on that, so we don't have a lot of clarity.
06:07
The Chargers have gotten a lot healthier.
06:09
Their left tackle, right tackle are back.
06:12
Obviously, Justin Herbert back.
06:13
Joey Bosa is still the main question mark.
06:16
And you saw the field view there.
06:17
Look at the D-line for the Cardinals.
06:19
That's where the issue is right there.
06:23
Yeah, as you can see, that's the offensive.
06:25
Go ahead, DRS.
06:26
I was going to squeeze one more in, Doc, for you.
06:28
DK Metcalf on Sunday.
06:29
A lot of fantasy people watching.
06:31
Four catches, 99 yards.
06:33
Is that knee going to be troublesome moving forward, or is he okay?
06:36
I think he's okay.
06:38
Look, this is what I always say.
06:39
What do I always say?
06:40
Judge the video of the injury.
06:43
Judge the actual injury.
06:45
Don't judge the reaction to the injury.
06:48
The cart off is a reaction to the injury.
06:51
Look at Cincinnati Bengals Geno Stone's safety.
06:54
Carted off in an air cast.
06:56
And we all think air cast means broken bone and done.
06:59
Well, he was walking around the locker room.
07:01
There's nothing wrong with being overprotective early.
07:04
This is why we judge video rather than reaction to the video.
07:08
We don't judge Sean Watson's peers.
07:11
We judge the fact that his calf popped.
07:13
Right.
07:14
And that's why the great work at Sports Injury Central, SICscore.com.
07:18
Dr. Chow, we appreciate the time.
07:20
We appreciate the time and the analysis, as always.
